What’s Shakin’?

resize-courtesy-duane-parkI eat at Duane Park restaurant fairly regularly—and have been doing so from when it was Duane Park Café—and I have to say I was a little surprised when the restaurant began hosting jazz-and-burlesque nights. It’s not that I have a problem with jazz or burlesque; in fact I happen to like them both. It’s that for me Duane Park was always a refuge from noisy restaurants, so it was somewhere near the end of the list of places I expected to see a pastie (unless one of the waiters, George, was feeling frisky).

But I still haven’t been! I tend to go to bed early because I get up early. (It’s the dog’s fault. He wants to get up whether I’ve been out late or not.) Someday, I vow to swing by and check it out, because I hear it’s a blast. Anyway, it’s on my mind today because earlier Marisa at Duane Park emailed me links to two videos, along with this note: “As you can not stay up to see the shows, we are sending you clips from them.” The first one, in particular, makes me want to go. Melody Sweets and the Candy Shop Boys perform Saturdays at 10:30 p.m. Someday….

There’s a show tonight: Brian Newman’s Jazz Trio with special guests Amber Ray, Ms. Tickel (love her name!), and Pandora, “fan dancer extraordinaire.” Here’s a clip of Newman’s trio….
