2010 Shop-Local Gift Guide: Washington, Vestry, and Beach

JOHN ALLAN’S TRIBECA
• John Allan’s sells a wide array of product, but I’d (also) recommend a gift card for the Signature Full Service: For just $38 (plus tip), you can give your special man-friend a haircut (with shampoo, conditioning, and hot towel), manicure, and shoeshine. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

VESTRY WINES
• General manager Cynthia Sexton, when asked which wine or liquor she would want for Christmas, hied to big wine cooler room in the back of the shop. She chose the 2007 Grange des Pères Herault Rouge ($90), a blend of Mourvedre, Syrah, and Cabernet. “It’s the best vintage since 2000 or 2001,” she said. “It’s very powerful, and it’ll age for a long time. It’s deeply complex. It stuns me every time.” •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

FLORATECH
• The flower shop was awash in poinsettias, but they’re a little quotidian, no? You can’t go wrong with an orchid, and maybe it’s just us, but we have a few that have lived longer than Carol Channing. This one is $125. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

TRIBECA CITIZEN T-SHIRTS
• These obviously sell themselves. There are two styles—including ones that say “Jay-Z is my neighbor”—and many colors, starting at $25, or $15 for kids’ shirts. Previous installments in the 2010 Shop-Local Gift Guide:

  1. Eric, I like your shirt, but it would be much cooler with the icon in your logo (that building).

  2. That may be doable, but not sure you’d feel the same way if you knew that the building isn’t necessarily Tribeca…?
