••• A bunch of people including Mayor Bloomberg “announced the ‘Pennies for the Memorial’ campaign for children to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of September 11, 2001, and to support educational programs for the National September 11 Memorial Museum, which opens in 2012. Bloomberg also announced that UnitedHealthcare, a UnitedHealth Group company, is donating $2 million to the campaign and operations of the Memorial during an interim period of continued construction on other World Trade Center projects.” Taxing the children—I love it!

••• Tribeca Greenmarket report: “It’s stone fruit season which means it’s the perfect season for sangria! Learn how to make this Spanish punch with local wine from Long Island’s Castello di Borghese vineyard and fresh market fruits. For all our underage patrons, we’ve got some kid-friendly mock-sangria for you to try as well. Samples available at the Borghese Vineyards stand at noon. New products at market on Saturdays: Italian white and purple eggplants, jalapenos, shishito and pimento de padron peppers, Hungarian sweet peppers, okra and chickpeas at Lanis Farm; field cherry tomatoes at Stokes. Also, Fantasty Fruit is back! Come for their famous berries. Just blueberries for now, but much more to come.”
