Seen & Heard: Espasso Sergio Rodrigues

••• Sarabeth’s Tribeca is on Seamless. (It may have been for a while, but I just noticed it.) You can also order by calling the restaurant.

••• From a reader: “Have you noticed the annoying surge in car traffic throughout lower Tribeca as a result of the Occupy protests? They basically have crippled traffic on Broadway: Cars heading south rubberneck as they pass Zuccotti Park causing Broadway to forever be backed up. Streets heading east towards Broadway (such as Warren) are then backed up, since traffic basically doesn’t move. Its quite a headache. To make matters worse, with all the police streaming in and out of the protest area, there’s a constant symphony of loud police sirens trying to navigate through the traffic. Its worse than ever. I’m on Murray. This general area used to be busy during the day (now even busier with the new Goldman Sachs building), quieter at night , and pretty calm on the weekends. Now, it’s a madhouse all the time. Adding to the pedestrian traffic is the 9/11 Memorial. Waves of visitors always making their way down Church and W. Broadway.” Anyone have any thoughts on the topic? I pointed out that the Chambers Street construction is a huge factor in the Warren/Murray congestion (and Broadway being squeezed down to two lanes at Duane can’t help).

••• “Friends of Washington Market Park is seeking volunteers for the Halloween Parade and Party on Sunday, October 30. Volunteers will be needed at the park from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. for everything from event set-up to staffing the various activities. Volunteer groups are welcome! Email HalloweenWMP@gmail.com for more details.”

••• That reminds me: A local business owner asked whether they should hand out candy post-parade-and-party on Sunday, Oct. 3o, or on Monday, Oct. 31. If other business owners would share their plans, it’d be appreciated. If you want to do it anonymously, tribecacitizen@gmail.com me.

••• Tomorrow, Espasso is opening a shop-within-the-shop devoted to Brazilian designer Sergio Rodrigues.

  1. From what I understand, Trick or Treating is always on Halloween. I’d love to hear if it is otherwise.

  2. at Tribeca Treats we’re planning on welcoming trick or treaters on the 31st, basically from after school (around 3) until we close at 7 (or until supplies last.) Our experience is that the large majority of kids are trick or treating on the 31st vs. the day of the parade.

  3. at Babesta we’re planning on handing out the treats on Oct. 31 as well! :)

  4. MaxDelivery is also handing out treats on Oct. 31!

  5. ROC gives out candy on the day of Halloween, Oct 31st from 3pm till 6:30pm.

  6. Torly Kid is planning to hand out candy on Monday, October 31!
