Besides Kelly Black’s threefer, Design Hunting magazine featured another downtown apartment made by combining units. Melanie and Philippe Zrihen (she of Downtown Dance Factory, he of banking) took two apartments purchased at a foreclosure auction and converted them into a 3,500-square-foot, four-bedroom home. Ghislaine Viñas Interior Design—which also designed the DDF headquarters, the West/Keeler townhouse on Warren, and a “playful triplex” peeped here—added some of Viñas’s signature zip. Of particular note: The “black sheep” chair at the dining-room table, and a special appearances by Superman and Gilligan. The text is by Tim McKeough; the photos are by Douglas Friedman.
