Seen & Heard: Duane Street Hotel Upgrade

••• The Duane Street Hotel converted four of its top-floor rooms into two suites: “The suites complete the hotel’s recent renovation, which includes an entirely new black and white décor inspired by 1920’s New York, for all 43 of the hotel’s guestrooms.” I got a tour—the suites are a nice size (400-475 square feet) and the hotel’s new look overall is much more sophisticated and residential.

••• The Conrad New York’s rooftop bar, the Loopy Doopy, opens for the summer on April 29.

••• An illuminating comment from Gen about my Seamless reservations: “Seamless take a 15% cut of any check. If restaurants try to mitigate that huge percentage by charging more for Seamless orders, Seamless fines them. 15% is a huge percentage for such a small margin business.”

••• I went to Asphalt Green—the uptown original—this morning, because I craved a good swim and, as a member of Asphalt Green BPC, I get in for free. It made me even more ready for our facility to open.

••• From Nicole Vianna: “Neighbors Against the NID is going live with a website today, nohrpnid.blogspot.com. Besides information on the NID and why we oppose it, the site includes a link to an online petition and updated versions of the presentation and FAQs we distributed at the CB1 Tribeca Committee meeting.”

73 warren••• The restaurant coming to 73 Warren took down the plywood today. Looks nice! No word yet on an opening date or a name.

••• Mark your calendars: The New York Academy of Art’s MFA Open Studios is April 19 from 6 to 9 p.m.: “It’s an annual free event that allows the public the rare opportunity to walk through five stories of studio space and view work by the Academy’s more than 100 MFA candidates. Artists and faculty will be on hand to answer questions and meet with visitors.”

••• I was walking by 101 Murray, thinking about what would replace it, when I noticed a building I could see being turned into groovy condos (or maybe a school, since it has some schoolyard potential): 140 Park Place, home of District Council 37.
