Seen & Heard: Bottomless Brunch at Tribeca Canvas

••• Tribeca Canvas invited me over for dinner because it has some new items on the menu—such as uni carbonara and sashimi Caesar salad—and I accepted.* I hadn’t been since it opened, and the room is more appealing now—the many sconces and candles really help. Adam and I particularly enjoyed the miso sea bass and the snap peas in XO sauce, and we were amused to learn that not only has the restaurant started serving brunch (and the kitchen makes its own bagels), but beginning next weekend, it’ll offer a “bottomless brunch” with yuzu Bellinis, wasabi Bloody Marys, and other drinks. Here’s the Tribeca Canvas brunch menu. Also: Lunch may happen soon.

••• Speaking of brunch: Kitchenette is now taking reservations for brunch.

••• Simit + Smith, the Turkish sorta-bagel joint, has apparently opened at 111 Worth (between Broadway and Lafayette). The one at 100 Williams is coming later this summer.

••• Mavis Staples is playing City Winery on Nov. 17 and 19.

••• Star Pizza (at Church and Murray) has reopened.

••• From Nicole Vianna, who attended yesterday’s meeting of the Hudson River Park Trust Board:

In Madelyn Wils’ President’s Report there were a few items that will be of interest to Tribecans:
—Restaurant on Pier 26: The building continues on schedule; it will have a deployable flood barrier to protect it in bad storms like Sandy. The RFPs for operating a restaurant in the structure are due Sep 16. The Trust is working with the City to get a lay-by created along Route 9A on the north side of N. Moore for deliveries and taxi drop-offs (it wasn’t specified what the effect on the bike and pedestrian path would be).
—Concert noise on Pier 26: Trust staff is taking the many complaints seriously and following up with each person to understand the specifics, but Madelyn also noted that they have been contacted by others who fully support the concert series. The speakers have been relocated somewhat (it wasn’t clear if this was before or after the most recent concert). Acoustical engineers will be testing this weekend and the Trust hopes they will have further suggestions.

*I have turned down 99% of freebies, but this seemed worthwhile, because I hadn’t been in a long time and I don’t make enough from this site to retry restaurants as often as I should. (And my companion—er, fiancé—has a say in where we go to dinner.) I promise to be honest about any comps and I’ll never write anything I don’t mean.
