Nosy Neighbor: Why Are the BMCC Trailers Still There?

Back in June, you said the BMCC trailers on West Street would be removed by September. They’re still there. What gives? —T.

Good question! The trailers, which popped up after BMCC’s Fiterman Hall was destroyed on 9/11, were supposed to be obsolete once the new Fiterman Hall opened. And as you point out, in June, the word was that “BMCC transferred the trailers to CUNY and DASNY [Dormitory Authority of the State of New York] June 2012 and […] DASNY will demolish and remove all debris in September.” I checked back with BMCC. The school’s director of buildings and grounds said, “We are working with DASNY in having the trailers removed by March 31. The bid has been awarded and the contractor is currently waiting for state and city Department of Transportation permit approvals as the boardwalk occupies one lane of the West Side Highway.”

Stay tuned….
