Seen & Heard: Weekend Ferry Service

••• Someone appears to be having fun with Best Made Company (or maybe Best Made is poking fun at itself?)…. Introducing Re Made Company, which apes Best Made’s branding but is all about plungers. UPDATE: See Chyara’s comment below.

••• Press release: “The legislation, sponsored by Council Members Brad Lander and Margaret Chin, would require retail and grocery stores to charge at least 10 cents for plastic bags, to make the cost of single-use bags clear to the consumer. The same charge would be placed on paper bags, to ensure an overall reduction in total bags used, regardless of type. The proposed charge would be retained by the store to cover the cost of providing bags. Customers who bring their own bags would not be charged.” I vote yes.

••• “The Port Authority announced the introduction of a six-week pilot program to determine the level of demand for weekend ferry service between Lower Manhattan and Jersey City while these two [PATH] stations are closed on the weekends. This pilot is being introduced as a result of passenger feedback, and conversations with local elected officials and business owners. The ferry service will begin this Saturday, March 29 and will end on Sunday, May 4 unless the Port Authority determines there is sufficient ridership to continue.” The details:

Fare:  $2.50 one-way, $5.00 roundtrip. $1 bike surcharge. Tickets can be purchased using cash, credit, or debit card at either terminal ticketing booth. Tickets cannot be purchased online or via the NY Waterways app at this time. This pilot program is also not a cross-honoring agreement, but rather an additional service to help alleviate disruption caused by the PATH weekend work.
