Big Beer Bar Coming to South Tribeca

No sooner does a bar close in south Tribeca—or is it north FiDi?—than another one pops up.

According to the Commercial Observer, “The owners of Rattle N Hum, Beer Authority and The Irish American”—bars in Murray Hill, Hell’s Kitchen, and FiDi, respectively—”are opening one of the largest craft beer bars in Lower Manhattan.” Barleycorn, as it’s being called, will debut this fall at 23 Park Place, across from the Four Seasons currently under construction at 30 Park Place. “There will be a 4,000-square-foot gastro-style pub with 70 beer lines, a full-service kitchen, an in-house pizza oven”—as opposed to an out-house one?—”and a raw bar.” And that’s just the ground floor. “There will be a 40-foot bar with 30 beer lines on the 4,000-square-foot second floor, which will be used for private functions.” Or overflow? If I’m reading the post correctly, Barleycorn also took “an additional 5,500 square feet over two other floors,” although whether that’ll be open to the public remains unclear; we’ll have to wait till the liquor license application goes before Community Board 1.

Speaking of CB1: I’m assuming the space, with its 4,000-square-foot footprint, goes through to Murray. We can expect major resistance from neighbors if Barleycorn has any plans to use that side as anything other than an emergency exit.
