Progress Report: Summer 2014

It can be hard to keep up with everything that’s coming soon (or coming eventually), so here’s a quick rundown. Click each link for the post that most thoroughly describes the business, including the location. The first handful are listed in possible order of opening—after that, it’s anyone’s guess.

Note: I probably overlooked a few. And if you have intel on any of these (or anything else), please share it at 917-209-6473 or tribecacitizen@gmail.com.

TRIBECA’S KITCHEN
Upscale diner from the Gee Whiz folks. Should open any day now.

BLUE RIBBON SUSHI BAR
At Hudson Eats in Brookfield Place; due this month.

JUICE PRESS
Tribeca Juice Press #2, on Murray. First week–ish of August.

Red Hook bakery and casual food opening a spinoff on Church. They’re trying for Labor Day.

ADORO LEI
Pizzeria-and-more in the old Antarctica space at 287 Hudson; September.

DENNY’S
The crappy chain restaurant is ruining 150 Nassau.

DRILL FITNESS
Indoor cycling and bootcamp at 37 Warren (at Church). Slated for the fall.

Big beer bar with pizza and oysters on Park Place.

UNILEVER SPA OR SALON
At 39 N. Moore, possibly involving Jennifer Lopez.

DOJO TRIBECA
Spinoff of East Village favorite Sushi Dojo, on Chambers. They don’t want to commit to a month, but they are saying it’ll definitely be in 2014.

PLANET FITNESS
Discount gym under the Sheraton/post office. January 2015.

TD BANK
At Greenwich and Chambers.

TETSU
Masa’s teppanyaki spinoff on Leonard; the initial opening date was a year ago, and I don’t even bother trying to ask anymore.

ANDREW CARMELLINI RESTAURANT AT THE SMYTH
Possibly with a farm-to-table theme. Shooting for end of the year (and the hotel renovations are on the same timetable).

BIKRAM YOGA NYC
On Duane. Early 2015.

GOURMET GARAGE
Grocery/prepared food at Broadway and Franklin. Was said to be end of 2014 but the store is still working out the details with the Landmarks Preservation Commission. “We have not started construction,” says CEO Andy Arons, “so it looks more like an early 2015 opening.”

175 FRANKLIN RESTAURANT (NAME TBA)
With consulting chef Alex García, so it’s presumably Cuban.

BROOKFIELD PLACE RETAIL
Spring 2015; they want it all to open at once. Click the link above to see which shops have signed on.

PARM
Italian sandwich shop at Brookfield Place, on Vesey. Projected opening is March 2015.

AMADA
Philly chef Jose Garces’s Spanish tapas restaurant at Brookfield Place, on Vesey. Sometime in 2015, presumably around the same time as Parm.

66 LEONARD RESTAURANT (NAME TBA)
Russian-backed restaurant and café in the old Matsugen space; it’s been pushed back repeatedly but the word is that it’s still on.

BAR & GRILL AT 349 GREENWICH
From a 121 Fulton owner in the former Dean’s space.

11 SIXTH AVE. RESTAURANT (NAME UNKNOWN)
22-hour diner on Sixth Ave. They appear to still be in the demolition phase.

FAIRWAY MARKET
Grocery across Greenwich from Whole Foods. The website says it’s coming in 2014 but I wouldn’t bet on it; the PR reps say they have nothing to report at this time. UPDATE: As of October 2014, the word is that Fairway is trying to pull out.

27 DESBROSSES / PONTE’S
The rumor was that Ponte’s restaurant will reopen the space, but it’s unconfirmed.

WESTFIELD WORLD TRADE CENTER
The mall opens sometime in 2015. Click the link above to see which shops have reportedly signed on.

THE FLEA
The theater is constructing a new building on Thomas.

SUPER LINDA REPLACEMENT
The rumor is that chef Geoffrey Zakarian is coming onboard to do something all-day, like the National. No confirmation or timetable yet.

CAFETERIA
A new outpost of the Chelsea restaurant in the Cosmopolitan Hotel. Work happening slowly, but neighbors are spoiling for a fight over the design.

FOUR SEASONS HOTEL
The 82-story Four Seasons Hotel and Private Residences New York Downtown is under construction at 99 Church (a.k.a. 30 Park Place).

THE BEEKMAN HOTEL
Hotel and condos in one of downtown’s best buildings, 5 Beekman/Temple Court (with Keith McNally and Tom Colicchio restaurants).

HOTEL AT 396 BROADWAY
“Four-star boutique hotel” with branding TBA; includes a restaurant and café. No sign of work, though.

IPIC MOVIE THEATER
Seaport cinema with restaurant service; mid-2015.

BISUTORO REPLACEMENT
We’ll see what they come up with. Not much sign of work yet.

  1. A month ago I asked a few execs gathered at the Chelsea Fairway when Tribeca would open and they said “January, 2015”. So,who knows. I doubt that soon unless they’re at work underground. Maybe it will be like the one in Kips Bay, in the basement.

  2. What’s the story with the restaurant opening in the new building that was built on Pier 26? And it seems like the green space next to the structure has taken forever to finish, any update on either?
