A Cocktail Bar Is Opening at Hudson and Thomas

Here’s a bombshell in the New York Times‘s roundup of bar openings this fall:

BAR CYRK The histrionic barman Albert Trummer, famous for his flaming drinks at Apotheke, hopes to evoke bygone New York glamour and classic cocktails. The opulent interior features long banquettes, chandeliers and gilt ceiling. Food will include a spin on the classic New York pizza slice. (Mid-September): 88 Thomas Street (Hudson Street).

Trummer is also known around here for Theater Bar,  the short-lived bar at 114 Franklin, in what’s now Tutto Il Giorno. And 88 Franklin is the back part (and presumably downstairs) of 50 Hudson, where J. Crew’s Ludlow Shop is. The last time the space came in front of CB1, it was for a café to be opened by the building’s owner, Eric Schlagman. (The full history of that is here.) According to the State Liquor Authority records, Schlagman is the principal, and the license application was filed in March 2013. I don’t recall this version ever going in front of Community Board 1, but I suppose could have missed it.

P.S. “Cyrk” as in Le Cirque…? The only Bar Cyrk I could find online is in Poland.
