In the News: Whole Foods Is Testing a Rewards Program

••• “Did you know there was a lesbian bar on W. Broadway in the ’70’s?” emailed R., along with a link to Box Turtle Bulletin‘s posting of the old advertisement at right. “There was also a leather bar in the basement of the court building just north of Thomas/W. Broadway about 20 years ago (I’ve forgotten the name) but it only lasted about a year.” Anyone out there remember details about either establishment? Do tell!

••• Whole Foods is testing a rewards program (not at the Tribeca store): “Customers will be given the option of a physical rewards card as well as a mobile app that can be downloaded for iOS. They will then be able to earn points that can be ‘redeemed for discounts and store experiences’ such as cooking classes. The trial period for the rewards program test is expected to last about six to eight months.” —Eater, summarizing Bloomberg

••• Sazón‘s sister restaurant, Sofrito in Midtown, “will close by the end of the year. The lease expires, and the landlord will not renew it.” —New York Times

••• “A lender to Trump SoHo, the upscale Manhattan hotel and condominium that Donald Trump unveiled on his television show ‘The Apprentice,’ is foreclosing on the property and putting it up for sale.” Seems like an apt moment to revisit this photo. —Wall Street Journal
