The 2015 Anticipation Index

The last question in the Best of 2014 survey wasn’t about 2014 at all. Instead, it asked readers to rate on a scale of 1 to 5 their anticipation about forthcoming openings in Lower Manhattan. Even if you disagree with the overall results—which prove that we’re hungry for more food options—you have to admit there’s a heck of a lot happening around here….

  1. Wasn’t there some chatter about Fairway trying to get out of their lease for the Tribeca store?

    • Yes but since no one has heard of any progress on that front, it seemed worth including.

      • FWIW. I was at the Chelsea Fairway not long after the “chatter” and asked a floor manager about it. She said they were told the Tribeca store is “delayed, not cancelled”.

Also, last week when I was at Century 21 I got into a conversation with a salesperson in their new mini-J&R and he told me that Century 21 bought the rights to the name “J&R” as part of the bankruptcy sale. Also that Century 21 did not take any of the real estate along Park Row and he heard that the newish building at Park Row and Ann Street was going to be covered into offices.

        • I think the building on the corner of Ann and Park Row would be a perfect location for H&M (long rumored to be looking for a location in FiDi). With neighbors like Zara, Anthropologie, Gap and Urban Outfitters plus the retailers that will soon join in at the Fulton Center, this is a very valuable and visible retail location. It would be a shame to lose it to office space.

  2. We really don’t need more “formula” stores in Tribeca, with all the attendant signage – commercial visual noise. Nice quiet office space on Park Row would be a relief.
