••• I watched as two cars made the illegal right turn from White to W. Broadway yesterday afternoon. They looked like unmarked police cars. If the 1st Precinct truly wants to stop this, they should post a cop there.
••• Remember the two guys aiming to row across the Atlantic? The boat is at North Cove Marina, so stop by this weekend and wish them well. (The trip got postponed for a couple of days at least, due to weather conditions.) UPDATE: They’re leaving North Cove Marina at 1030am tomorrow (Sunday)!
••• Two kids (one assumes) are taking it to the street.
••• Yet another shoot: The film How to Be Single on Monday in the Sixth Ave./Varick area. It’s either about how “a woman writing a book about bachelorettes finds herself mixed up in an international affair while doing research abroad” (IMDB) or “a humorous account of single men and women in New York City struggling with relationships and love” (the flyer). Starring Dakota Johnson, Dan Stevens, Rebel Wilson, Leslie Mann, Alison Brie, and Damon Wayans, Jr.
••• The Five Boro Bike Tour is tomorrow (Sunday), so those of us who get out and about early will want to be on our toes. (Cyclists take this as even more of an opportunity to ride anywhere they want.)
••• From Torly Kid: “We are finishing our book swap this week and, as always, we have lots of books leftover that we would love to donate. In the past, we have sent them up to a school in the Bronx, however I wanted to reach out to the community to see if anyone knows of an organization that could use them. ••• A few shots from inside the market part of Le District, which opened yesterday. (I went by at 8 a.m., and a worker in the café said the boulangerie opens at 8 a.m., but the rest opens at 10 a.m.—at least on weekdays; no clue about weekends.) It sells grocery items, produce, and prepared foods, and another café is opening Monday. I was pleased to see watercress—if Le District can pull that off, I’ll be a regular. And it’s great that Le District now has another entrance, at the southern end.

Since it opened, every now and then I wander through Le District, and I want very badly to like it but I keep expecting an overflowing bounty of delicious and hard-to-find things, and instead I find spotty, empty looking shelves of Babybel cheese and standard condiments.
I’m sure partially I’ve just been ruined by the extreme styling of places like Eataly and Whole Foods where there is literally food on every non-floor surface, but whatever the reason so far Le District just doesn’t do it for me.
It’s time for the 1st Precinct to find a new home that can accommodate their parking needs and their inability to adhere to the very basic of traffic laws and safety.
Agree with mg – Le District has a very “All Good Things” vibe about, just a lot more momentum out of the gate because it’s basically surrounded by the inside of Charles De Gaulle airport. It’s a novelty for now but nobody normal who actually lives here will prefer to shop there over Whole Foods, which is really not far away at all considering the walk through the Goldman/Regal/Shake Shack alley basically dumps you on their back doorstep.
the rotisserie chicken alone is worth it.
