The Two-Story Addition Proposed for 17 Leonard

17 LeonardAlso at last night’s meeting of the Community Board 1 Landmarks Committee: Architecture firm DXA Studio presented plans for the addition to three-story 17 Leonard (pictured above in its current state). They’re proposing two more stories and a bulkhead, taking it from 39.5 feet to 62 feet. The top two floors would be a Skyframe system like the one used at 7 Harrison’s penthouse, which DXA also worked on. Because Leonard is so narrow, the architect said the addition would be “minimally visible,” with the greatest sightlines from directly across the street, but also from points east and west. They brought a model, too; the mesh in back will be a Greenscreen, with plants climbing up it. The new building to the west, 15 Leonard, will lose three or four lot-line windows.
