The Butterfly Has Closed for the Summer

Eater reports that The Butterfly, Michael White’s midcentury-Midwestern bar and restaurant at 225 W. Broadway, “is taking a break for the rest of the summer. A rep for the group explains that the restaurant is on ‘hiatus till Labor Day [because it’s] so quiet in Tribeca in the summer.'” (This is days after Church Street Tavern pulled the same move.) Back in April, the Butterfly stopped serving weekday lunch, and it recently decided to close entirely on Mondays and Tuesdays, so this isn’t a huge surprise. What’s more—sorry, but someone has to say it—no on should be shocked if it doesn’t reopen in the fall.

UPDATE 7/20: Eater updated its post with this message found on the bar’s website: “Celebrating summer by giving our team a chance to work on their craft by researching cocktails, traveling, and renovating the space.”
