Seen & Heard: Keep an Eye Out for Shorty

••• Be on the lookout for a lost dog! “This is Shorty, our dog that we rescued from a Texas kill shelter only two weeks ago,” emails Bob. “During his evening walk, he was frightened by a loud noise and somehow got out of his harness and ran from my wife. He was last seen in the vicinity of Leonard and Lafayette around 9 p.m. We are heartbroken and offering a substantial reward. Any help appreciated.” Call [redacted] with any info. (I don’t know if Shorty had been microchipped yet—let’s hope so—but if you haven’t chipped your dog, please make that vet appointment  now!) UPDATE: “Shorty has been found!” commented Bob. “He made his way from the City Hall area all the way to SoHo where he was apparently taken in for the evening by a good (great!) Samaritan.  Thanks to the chip, they were able to track us down finally, and Shorty has been returned safe and sound.” GET YOUR DOG CHIPPED, PEOPLE!

••• Barbara points out that the bus stop signs are being reinstalled on Chambers, a sign that the buses are being re-re-routed back from Warren. And that construction on Chambers really is done!

••• A statement from the law firm our local politicians, Chin, Brewer, Nadler, Squadron, Glick, and Silver: “We are deeply disturbed by the rumors that Tessa Huxley is being forced out of her position leading the Battery Park City Parks Conservancy by the Battery Park City Authority leadership. If she chooses to retire she will have our thanks and our sincere best wishes, but we see absolutely no reason for her not to continue in her position for as long as she wishes to serve.”

••• Shoot flyers for Monday are posted at W. Broadway and Murray for Showtimes’ “The Affair.”

  1. Eric, thanks for highlight our urgent search for Shorty. He is indeed microchipped. We are all devastated that this sweet soul is going through this after all he has already been through. Thanks to your entire community for any assistance.

  2. Best of luck bob we will all be on the look out I would recommend sending this to local rescues and asking them to post on Facebook as well as ‘find sugar nyc’ has a large following and helps promote other lost dogs (their pit is missing after being stolen)

  3. UPDATE: Shorty has been found!!!!! He made his way from the City Hall area al the way to SoHo where he was apparently taken in for the evening by a good (great!) Samaritan. Thanks to the chip, they were able to track us down finally, and Shorty has been returned safe and sound.

Thanks to Erik for providing this amazing forum and to the community of readers who leapt to assistance. One of the good things to come out of this process is we know you exist!

  4. Glad to hear Shorty has been found. Microchipping is a must, but also recommend adding a nylon slip collar for redundancy. You clip the leash to both the slip collar and either the harness or the regular flat collar so if your dog gets out of the harness it is still attached to the leash.

  5. i wouldn’t be so fast to chip your pets. the health effects have not been adequately tested. there are many anecdotal reports of tumors growing around the chips.
