Seen & Heard: Ballerina Mural Extended

••• This Thursday at 1 p.m., there will be a reading of Not Norman at Tribeca Treats. It’s part of Jumpstart‘s attempt to break the world record for the most people reading the same book at the same time (to raise awareness for the importance of preschool literacy). Plus: free milk and cookies.

••• Press release: “Previously scheduled to last only through October, the 100-foot-tall ballerina mural created by famed French street artist JR at developer DDG’s 100 Franklin Street site has been granted an extension by New York City’s Landmarks Preservation Commission. The installation […] has had its permit extended until next summer.” Not sure if that means the mural will necessarily be around for nine months, but it must mean at least a small reprieve for these trees.) And the word is that JR will be touching up the piece, which got a bit thrashed in a recent storm.

The discussion will include clips and in-depth discussion. Buy your tickets before Friday with Password SINCITY and save $10 per seat.”

••• I hear there’s hope that the street trees along Con Ed’s W. Broadway substation—also known as the FreshDirect parking lot—will be replaced soon.

  1. I heard they are not building I guess this pretty much confirms that.

  2. The scaffold is down at 325 West Broadway. ExoSKELETON is the right word because in my opinion it looks like dinosaur bones welded together.
