Seen & Heard: Yoga Studio Dropping the Bikram Name

••• Bikram Yoga Soho at 404-406 Broadway is changing its name to The Yoga Loft TriBeCa. From the announcement:

While we were in the middle of opening our studio, several lawsuits were filed against Bikram Choudhury and Bikram Yoga, Inc, containing allegations of sexual assault. Despite our misgivings, we chose to continue to carry the Bikram name simply as a way to describe the type of yoga we practice. After much thought and debate, we have decided to change our name officially as of November 1. As a female-owned business in the most progressive city in the world, we strive to create a safe, supportive, healing environment for everyone who walks in the door. We are separating ourselves from the name, not the practice. Going forward, you can expect the same great classes, same amazing teachers, and same prices, plus a few exciting surprises we will be unveiling in November.

••• Lisa Levitt of NestSeekers International sends word that VIP Nail Salon is moving across the street to 71 Reade. (Apparently it’s been in Tribeca for 25 years.)

71 Reade••• The single-story building at 438-440 Greenwich is coming along nicely. It’s going to be a sales office for the huge condominium going up at 70 Vestry (a.k.a. 268 West).

••• My love for the Spring Street Salt Shed is not unconditional. I hope the concrete ends up being of uniform color. (Click the photo to see what I mean.)
