Sushi Tatsu Is Not Opening Here

175 FranklinI was scanning the Department of Buildings notices at 175 Franklin—it’s being converted from commercial to “mixed use, commercial and residential loft dwellings”—when I noticed the “for rent” sign on the ground floor. Had there been one before? No. And that meant what I was afraid it did: Sushi Tatsu, the high-end sushi restaurant with a chef formerly of Sushi Yasuda, a whiskey bar downstairs, and a design by Shigeru Ban, is no longer happening there. (The proprietors are considering Noho instead.) It’s the third restaurant in a row to bail on 175 Franklin; the first two were Boucan by Hotel Chocolat and a Cuban restaurant.

Note: Sushi Tatsu is not to be confused with Tetsu, chef Masa Takayama’s forthcoming Japanese (but not sushi) restaurant at 78 Leonard.
