Beer and Wine at Aire Ancient Baths

From Community Board 1…. My comments are indented on the line below.

Please note that this is a preliminary list. Be sure to check the agenda page on our website for any changes to agendas prior to the meeting dates. (ID is required to enter building.)

11/1 Battery Park City Committee – 6:00 PM
Location: Community Board 1 – Conference Room, 1 Centre Street, Room 2202A-North
1) Allied Universal Ambassadors – Update by Patrick Murphy

I understand the “ambassadors” are there for security reasons, and I don’t expect them to be outgoing, but I’ve never had one even look me in the eye as I passed (and often they’re checking their phones).

2) Tunnel to Towers Foundation street activity permit application for Vesey Street between West Street and North End Ave., September 23, 2017, 7:00 am to September 24, 2017 5:00 pm – Resolution

11/2  Financial District Committee – 6:00 PM
Location: Community Board 1 – Conference Room, 1 Centre Street, Room 2202A-North
1) Site-integrated Theater – Report by Lauren Dietrich Chavez, We Players Managing Director

From its website: “We Players presents site-integrated performance events that transform public spaces into realms of participatory theater. We bring communities together, reclaiming local spaces for public discourse and civic celebration through art. Extending the transformative powers of performance beyond the stage, we invite our collaborators and audience to engage fully and awaken to the spectacular world around us.” It’s based in San Francisco.

2) Public Design Commission, Vietnam Veterans Memorial Signage – Presentation & Resolution

From its website: “In 2012, Hurricane Sandy caused significant damage to NYC including our beloved Vietnam Veterans Memorial and Plaza at 55 Water Street in lower Manhattan. Earlier this year, the physical structure repairs were completed. We are delighted that on October 13, 2016 the new state-of-the-art LED lighting system will be illuminated.”

8) 3 WTC – Level 3 aka 175 Greenwich Street, application for liquor license for Hawksmoor Group LLC d/b/a Hawksmoor – Resolution

Hawksmoor is a London-based steakhouse chain. I don’t know whether “Level 3” means the street level (with 1 and 2 being the sub-basement and basement levels) or the second above-ground floor (with 1 being the street); what I do know is that the WTC could really use something like a restaurant to warm up the chilly street level. It’s like Gattaca there.

9) 52 William Street, application for hotel liquor license for SCCQ Downtown LLC & Bailey Restaurant Group Inc. – Resolution

That’s the Club Quarters hotel.

Apparently, Aire Ancient Baths would like to serve wine; I could see it helping with private parties, and its lobby area could function as a lounge. (Or maybe it needs a permit for the “Red Wine Bath.”)

1) 308-310 Canal Street, application for rooftop addition – Resolution

While the larger Pearl Paint building gets renovated (and a Shake Shack), the smaller one has been waiting for its moment—which evidently involves a two-story addition. (The above photo is old; 304-306 Canal is looking quite nice these days.)

2) 53-55 Beach Street, application for reconsideration of one story rooftop addition – Resolution

That’s the building with the Montessori School of Manhattan on the ground floor.

It was purchased in February of 2015 for $29.5 million.
