Seen & Heard: Another Store Closed at Brookfield Place

••• Another retail casualty at Brookfield Place: Canadian womenswear brand Judith & Charles has left. The space is currently being used for a pop-up photo exhibit.

••• I heard back from a rep at KinderCare, the Portland, Ore.–based company opening at early education center in the former New York Sports Club space at Greenwich and Reade. She said they have centers in 38 U.S. states and D.C., and that they generally provide care and education to  kids from 6 weeks to 12 years old, but that the Tribeca center will be for infants through pre-K age (four or five years old). They’re hoping to open within the year, but of course that’s dependent on how construction plays out.

••• I kind of wish 111 Murray would end up with a doodad on top, like the crest of a cockatoo.

••• Congratulations to Goodie Girl founder Shira Berk, who lives in Tribeca and started her company here: Her gluten-free cookies will soon be sold in more than 7,900 Starbucks outlets around the country. Goodie Girl products are also sold at Walmart, Publix, Kroger, Starbucks…. The moral here: Start a business that you can scale.

••• The Tribeca Citizen T-shirt looks good everywhere, including quad biking in Namibia. Buy yours now! It makes a great gift for all the disappointed and enraged commenters in your life.

  1. Hey Erik,

I think “Another Casualty at Brookfield Place” is a bit of a misleading headline. My first thought was someone had jumped from the balcony. Just saying!
