Seen & Heard: Ward III Construction

••• The gate is down at Church Street Kitchen, the little restaurant at 178 Church, and there are packed boxes inside. It had changed ownership fairly recently.

••• “I stopped and talked to a construction worker at the Ward III building,” reports M. “Some serious H-beam work! Steel beams have been installed from the basement up through the building in four spots (you can see one in the window and another one at the end of the bar. I think there are horizontal beams as well. He couldn’t say when they would be done.”

••• The happy faces torn into the plastic in 1 White’s windows (zoom in on the photo) made me wonder if something was happening there. In the fall of 2014, Man of the World planned a shop/tailor/barber/mancave in the entire building, but aborted soon after. Now it looks like the owner is turning it into a triplex with retail on the ground floor.

••• Excellent neon signage for the outpost of Le Relais de Venise (steak frites specialists) opening imminently at Watts and Thompson.

••• Free tennis clinics for kids age 5-8 kick off April 24 at Washington Market Park.

••• The Suitsupply store at Brookfield Place has opened.

••• Developer Sorgente Group appears to be keeping at least some of 60 White’s ground floor for an office.

  1. Sorry to see this about Church Street Kitchen. My wife was the operator and co-owner back in 2012-2013. Hope something good comes in its place for a neighborhood we have very fond memories of…including the write up you did on us when we first opened, Erik!
