In the News: Nazi Collaborators on Broadway’s Canyon of Heroes

••• Long article in the New York Times about 45 Park Place, where a condo tower will rise instead of the Muslim community center that was initially called for. Of note: Asking prices are $3,400 per square foot; there’s still no design for the adjacent three-story Islamic museum and plaza (and it’s unclear whether there’s funding for it); the Times says that Tribeca ends at Murray because that’s what Community Board 1 says; and the Times is still inexplicably turning to “Ground Zero mosque” hatemonger Pamela Geller for quotes about this project. Rendering by Williams New York.

••• Eater has more on the food half of Canal Street Market, which opened today. Full report to come.

••• “For 13 years the names of two Nazi collaborators, complicit in the deaths of thousands of French Jews, have been enshrined in granite plaques along Lower Broadway’s Canyon of Heroes. Now comes a call by some to erase those infamous figures from the 13-block walk of city history.” —Tribeca Trib

••• “Not satisfied to let her apartment at 443 Greenwich Street sit vacant while she circles the globe starring in blockbusters, actress Jennifer Lawrence is looking for a renter—to the tune of $27,500 a month.” Below: The poster was just released for her next film. —Real Deal

  1. Good news about the food hall and glad to hear of some vegan options….we’ll check it out this week.

(I hope this is a sign of the future of Canal Street, and the tacky tourist shops and counterfeit street hawkers will finally disappear)
