••• Martin Auer says his plans for a Martin Auer Bakehouse at 249 Church (northeast corner of Franklin) have fallen through.

••• This upcoming Tuesday brings Dine Around Downtown, the Downtown Alliance’s food festival at 28 Liberty (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.): “The Downtown Alliance’s fifteenth community tasting event, co-presented with Fosun, continues as a downtown tradition in bringing together some of the finest culinary establishments in Lower Manhattan.  It is open to the public and admission is free.  Signature menu items will be available from participating restaurants for between $3-$7.”

••• I’m pretty excited about Hemlock, a new “vegetable forward” restaurant on Rivington. We ordered seven dishes and all were good.

••• The Joe café and Havaianas flip-flop shop at the World Trade Center mall have opened, reports Anthony. They’re on the corridor leading to Brookfield Place.

  1. Hemlock sounds very intriguing…have to try it…still looking for more vegan options in the area (recommendations welcome! Even non-vegan places that have vegan options)

    • But that name…”Hemlock”? Sounds a bit, well…poisonous, no?

    • A little farther east (on East Broadway & Essex) is JaJaJa – a vegan Mexican restaurant with great cocktails and delicious, affordably priced food. It’s my new favorite in the LES.
