Seen & Heard: Reprise of the Post-It War

••• Bad news for those of you hoping someone had already rented the former Nobu space….

••• Regarding the Smile Newsstand at Shinola being closed by the Department of Health, ostensibly because it was serving coffee in a lobby: “Heard from a reliable source and friend that Smile was cited by the Dept of Health for allowing dogs to come in,” commented TriBeCa Mom. “Although most people think it is a store, it is treated the same as any restaurant by the health inspectors.” That seems far more logical.

••• The Poke Bowl restaurant taking the place of Crave Espresso Bar on Canal has wasted no time.

••• The Department of Transportation keeps messing with Franklin Street in front of Terra and Gotan when the whole thing needs to be designed into an actual plaza.

••• The Post-It war on Canal flared up again.

  1. A high end sushi restaurant that has locations in Tokyo and Paris had been negotiating for 6 months to take over the Nobu spaces-but I hear that all fell apart recently.

    • The new Nobu space is magnificent and a Loss for our neighborhood to lose them.
Landlords will soon figure out that 1+1 needs to make 2 in order for another restaurant to jump in. Nobody wants to be working just to cover rent.

      • Nobu’s move was about having more space for private rooms and events, was not about the rent.
