Seen & Heard: Louis C.K. Film Shoot

••• I was delighted to see Harrison back working security at the Tribeca Whole Foods. He said he’s on the overnight shift.

••• A new sidewalk was being poured at 56 Leonard yesterday—a sign that work is nearly done.

••• No activity at the Trader Joe’s coming to 161 Sixth Ave. (northwest corner of Spring); then again, it’s possible the store isn’t taking the corner spot.

••• The signs for “Summer 2017 Films LLC” shooting in the W. Broadway/Warren area on Tuesday, June 13, appear to be for a film by Louis C.K.

••• Love, Shelby, Shelby Lynne’s follow-up to her exquisite album, I Am Shelby Lynne, is universally acknowledged not to be among her best records. But I always loved the song “Bend“—in particular, when she sings, “Get rid of it, baby.” Daryl Hall’s backup vocals make this a lovely version. Oh, Lynne is playing City Winery on August 19 and 20 with her sister, Allison Moorer; the two have a joint album coming out.

••• Is this yet another new street-sign typeface? It’s not Clearview, being used elsewhere.

    DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

    Federal Highway Administration

National Standards for Traffic Control Devices; the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways; Notice of Termination of Interim Approval IA-5

AGENCY: Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Department of Transportation (DOT).

    ACTION: Notice.

    ———————————————————————–

SUMMARY: The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways (MUTCD) is incorporated in our regulations, approved by FHWA,
and recognized as the national standard for traffic control devices used on all streets, highways, bikeways, and private roads open to public travel. This notice terminates the Interim Approval for Use of
Clearview Font for Positive Contrast Legends on Guide Signs (IA-5), issued September 2, 2004, as authorized by Section 1A.10 of the MUTCD, and discontinues the provisional use of an alternative lettering style in traffic control device applications. The result of this termination rescinds the use of letter styles other than the FHWA Standard
Alphabets on traffic control devices, except as provided otherwise in the MUTCD. Existing signs that use the provisional letter style and comply with the Interim Approval are unaffected by this action and may remain as long as they are in serviceable condition. This action does not create a mandate for the removal or installation of any sign. This action does not amend any provision of the MUTCD.

  2. Trader Joe’s lists the Spring Street store as “coming soon”, as distinguished from those opening in 2017. http://www.traderjoes.com/PDF/Trader-Joes-Stores.pdf
