Valentine No. 66

For the eighth summer, I’ll be spotlighting little aspects of life here that I love. To see the previous Valentines, click the Valentine tag at the end of the post.

I suspect that when you’re opening your own restaurant, there are all sorts of things you want to do, but then the list of things you have to do grows so long that the whimsical, creative, fun touches never get off the back burner. Ned Baldwin at Houseman, however, found the time/money/energy/whatever to put Gerardo Blumenkrantz‘s quirky illustrations everywhere—on the menu, the bathroom doors, postcards, Instagram…. They’re all the more charming for being totally unnecessary.

  1. It’s a twisted mind, but completely loveable.

  2. Awww thanks Erik!!!

  3. The food and the illustrations hold up after repeated visits. Last night the stracciatella salad with patty pan squash was delicious. We enjoyed it so much that the woman sitting next to us ordered it too.

  4. I miss my old Tribeca neighborhood every day, but few things I miss more than the lovely Houseman! From the warm hospitality to the beautiful room to Blumenkrantz’s adorable drawings, but nothing more than Tribeca’s (maybe even NYC’s) best burger!

  5. Gerardo Blumenkrantz is a genius — which makes Ned a genius for partnering with him. And the food!!!
