Seen & Heard: All scream…

ICE CREAM COMING SOON
We bumped into Debi Kahn, the owner of Downtown Yogurt & Ice Cream, coming out of her shop at 303 Greenwich today, and she said she is hoping for a soft opening late this week or early next, with the ultimate goal of having a grand opening on the first day of spring, March 20. This was the post from last September: Jersey City’s Downtown Yogurt & Ice Cream is opening a combination frozen yogurt/ice cream shop in the former Macaron Café space at 303 Greenwich. “The shop will feature Bassett’s Ice Cream (America’s oldest ice cream, since 1861) and Frogurt frozen yogurt (as found at Bloomingdale’s Forty Carrots),” emailed Mark Kahn, who founded the company in 2014 with his wife, Debi. “The ‘self-serve’ format will give customers the ability to also choose from over 50 toppings.”

VIEW OF COLOR VUE
It looks like Color Vue Hair Lounge, which I am guessing is a hair coloring salon, is poised to open at 23 Warren, just east of Church. E. snapped this while walking by. They have no web presence at all (???) so will stroll on over later to see what’s what.

TRIBECA GALLERY WALK MARCH 10
It’s a big week for gallery walks: in addition to Thursday’s Tribeca Art+Culture night, on Sunday you can follow up with the first annual Tribeca Gallery Walk — scheduled to coincide with the Independent Art Fair, on March 10 from 10a to 1p. The walk will showcase participating galleries in Tribeca and conclude with a panel about Tribeca’s new gallery landscape moderated by Eileen Kinsella.

IN THE OLD SUN IN BLOOM SPOT…
…B. spotted what looks like the soon-to-be open coffee shop called Hungry Ghost. The Brooklyn-based chain has six locations there, as well as one at NYU. Their specialty is espresso, and they made this cool interactive map from the Times on the city’s best coffee spots. Thanks to F. for the updated photo.

HE’S WATCHING
Spotted in the window of the First National Bank building at 415 Broadway, the southwest corner with Canal (the site of the yet-to-be-seen Italian market). Any clues?

  1. No clues but the First National Bank building always seemed like it would be a cool location for a gym like Equinox or something.

  2. I think Erik did a post about the Canal street building last year. Maybe that it would become some sort of fancy food market???

    • The bank building is so beautiful; it’s a shame that it is just an empty shell and site of repeated vandalism, not to mention a backdrop to the sidewalk-blocking tourist bazaar.

It would make a fantastic museum annex. Unlikely, but since this area is becoming the “TriBeCa Arts District” with so many galleries, maybe it could happen….

The food hall sounds promising, though. No updates on that, though? Maybe the asking Rent is Too Damn High.

  3. I love the commerce that takes place outside the bank building! Sorry folks. Also like skateboarders!
