Barry Fidnick sent this one in…. I walk down this street every three days or so, but I never noticed this. Anyone know where it was shot? Guess in the comments on the page you reach by clicking here.

••• Goldman Sachs presented its retail plans to CB1 yesterday: Danny Meyer was there to discuss a Shake Shack, a Blue Smoke, and a to-be-determined fine-dining restaurant. (For Pete’s sake, let it not be a steakhouse—this semi-vegetarian would like to be able to enjoy one of the new restaurants.) The DSW space will become a conference center/ballroom. (Broadsheet Daily)

••• As of today, Wichcraft is making its BLTs—they only do it when the tomatoes are good enough. Now you know why I’m a semi-vegetarian…. (Grub Street)

••• Re: the two apartments owned by Damon Dash that were put up for auction yesterday: “There were nearly $9 million worth of liens on the two properties, which were first offered as a pair, for just under $8 million. When the package didn’t sell, they were offered separately. One sold, the other did not. The first condo, in the Atalanta at 25 North Moore Street in Tribeca, saw a brief bidding war before selling to a company called Platinum Capital for $5.5 million. The minimum bid the bank would accept was $5 million. The other apartment, at the Sugar Warehouse at 79 Laight Street, also in Tribec, did not meet its $3 million minimum bid, so it now belongs to the bank.” (New York Times)

••• Video of rats swarming Collect Pond Park. That reminds me: I recently contacted the Parks Department to see if plans to redo the park were really underway, and I never heard back. (Curbed)

••• Eater reports on the opening of BLT Bar & Grill; also, everything at the restaurant is 10% off through Labor Day.

••• “The Peck Slip Post Office, located between Pearl and Water Streets, is looking to sell the top half of its United States Postal Service-owned building. But the U.S.P.S. has yet to reach a final deal and the possibility remains for the New York City Department of Education to open a new public school at the location.” (Downtown Express)

••• SL Green Realty “landed a big new tenant for 100 Church St. [between Park and Barclay]. Healthfirst agreed to lease 172,000 square feet there for 20 years. That is the largest deal SL Green has closed in the 1,080,000-square-foot building since taking it over earlier this year in a foreclosure. The building was roughly 50% vacant when SL Green acquired it from the Sapir Family, which had defaulted on a mortgage.” (Crain’s) Related: The New York Post says the “jinx” on the building is now over, thanks in good part because SL Green is “normalizing” the lobby: “Best of all, SL Green is normalizing the weird lobby, which was notoriously decorated with Swarovski chandeliers—22 of them—giving it the appearance of a chandelier showroom on Bowery. It didn’t help that the fixtures sprouted serpentine, squid-like arms.”

Wicki Boyle on the River to River Festival's recent tribute to legendary choreographer Merce Cunningham.

The weather broke for the better, and a breeze and cooler air wafted over the kids, grown-ups, dancers and those who merely stand and drool at dancers. We were all a part of a presentation to honor Merce Cunningham, a presentation of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Councils’ River to River Festival. This airy Monday night memorial was a celebration for the beloved choreographer Merce Cunningham, who passed away exactly a year ago. The evening was called We Give Ourselves Away at Every Moment.

The dance community coalesced to pay tribute to Cunningham’s influence by using his iconic methods in his familiar spirit of rigorous play. There was a simple wooden platform erected in the midst of Rockefeller Park and dancers warmed up flying across the stage or stretched while the toddler set—I had two in tow—hit the swings, sand, or water in a mode of active waiting.

Finally the speakers screeched and blared and we were all drawn to watch. The event was curated and produced by Annie B. Parsons and William Knapp and works were created by Lucinda Childs, Susan Marshall, Jon Kinzell, Faye Driscoll, and Bill T. Jones, who roamed and circled the crowd’s perimeters with the grace of a linen-clad lion.

There were no tickets, no permits, no chairs, just a lazy sprawling crowd, who knew or didn’t about the wealth of art Merce poured into the New York City and world artistic community for decades. But often art outside can be best digested by those who stumble upon it and are reminded that glory and majesty crop up. Like the crayon-green grass or the sparkle on the water, some things need to be glimpsed without fanfare so we can ruminate on them later.

••• “Former hip hop mogul Damon Dash ran into some money trouble a few years back (we can think of a few reasons why) and reportedly stopped paying a $78,504.20-per-month mortgage. His $7.3 million loan was for a pair of Tribeca lofts, one at 72 Laight Street, and the other a 5,200-square-foot duplex in The Atalanta at 25 N. Moore Street, one of the neighborhood’s power buildings. Jay-Z’s ex-bestie tried to sell that Atalanta stunner for $7.9 million (he bought it for $3.875 million back in 2004) to pay off his debts, but the guy’s got 99 problems and this condo stayed one—until 1 p.m. tomorrow [today] at the New York County Courthouse, when a new owner could emerge. That’s the time and place for the scheduled foreclosure auction of Dash’s duplex, according to broker-blogger Manhattan Loft Guy, which follows a March court judgment in favor of the bank.” (Curbed)

••• “After a year of work, a group of Community Board 1 volunteers headed by Tom Goodkind has produced a ‘Seniors’ Guide for Lower Manhattan,’ which will be officially released today. The 55-page guide covers housing and senior centers, health and safety resources, transportation benefits for seniors and local clubs and organizations that serve seniors. It also lists advocacy groups and useful websites and phone numbers such as those for the New York State Office for the Aging, National Shared Housing, Meals on Wheels and MTA accessibility.” (Broadsheet Daily)

When I say "cheesecake,"I don’t mean the stuff sold at Tribeca Treats; I mean the real stuff—real horseflesh and manflesh, as it is occasionally on display at the police stable on Varick Street.

When I say “cheesecake,”I don’t mean the stuff sold at Tribeca Treats or the new (but to me, not improved) Jin Market on Hudson; I mean the real stuff—real horseflesh and manflesh, as it is occasionally on display at the police stable on Varick Street.

When my kids were little we used to wander by on a regular basis. I said it was for them, but in reality I loved to revel in the sweet smell of hay and horse and to pet the velvet noses. I kept the sensation in my fingertips and nostrils for as long as I could, recalling all those lazy summer days when all I had was a lovely bay horse, tall black boots, cut off shorts and a T-shirt; I couldn’t imagine ever needing more in summer.

So when I happened by the stable during the recent swelter, in a languid attempt at errands, I was pleasantly stopped in my tracks by Tank (he’s the horse) and Dan. Both were happily splashing water, kicking up a wet ruckus and reminding me how sweet summer can be. Both are cute as big, muscly buttons.

I can’t tell you who beguiled me more.

All you have to do is send a text message to MaxDelivery (which is based on White Street) between noon and 5 or 6 p.m., and they’ll send over a free snack pack filled with something to drink, something healthy—such as a piece of fruit—and something less healthy. “It’s a pick me up,” she said. So last week I texted at 5:03 p.m. (the info on where and what to SMS is here), and I immediately received a “success” message, followed by another message saying my snack would arrive by 5:24 p.m. At 5:16, another message said the delivery time was not estimated to be 5:30, but that may have just been to manage my expectations because my buzzer rang at 5:22. And when MaxDelivery says “free snack,” they mean it: The delivery guy even insisted on no tip. [Update: I've since learned that the promotion is available seven days a week, that you can get two per person (one for you and one for a friend), and it's currently slated to run through the end of the month but may be extended through August. Update #2: Delivery range is anywhere below 34th St. on the west side and 26th St. on the east side.]

So what did I get?
