More fancy than casual

Atrio is the restaurant on the lobby level of the Conrad New York hotel. The long, low-ceilinged room is unremarkable, with glass-bead curtains offering the only sense of place—probably because the restaurant also serves breakfast (and lunch)—and it’s not as dark as the photos below indicate. Otherwise, it’s comfortable enough, civilized and refreshingly quiet, with nicely spaced tables. The Iberian-influenced food is more interesting than it needs to be—are those corn shoots on the charred octopus?—given that the open kitchen is also responsible for room service, and the somewhat high prices from the restaurant’s opening days have mellowed out, making the place attractive for residents, too. The Conrad’s lobby bar (pictured at bottom), just outside Atrio, is an appealing spot to catch up over a drink and do some people watching.
