American (New), Bar
More casual than fancy

With its impeccably curated salvage vibe and vaulted ceiling, Smith & Mills is a leading contender for the prettiest room in Tribeca, though nook might be a better word—it’s tiny, with just a half-dozen tables and a bar. (Needless to say, it fills up quickly.) The menu is eccentric—New European might be more apt than New American, with steamed mussels bumping up against tomato bruschetta and Hungarian meatballs—and inexpensive, though people seem to go to S&M more to drink than eat. Note: The bathroom, with an old train sink that you lift to empty, is oddly romantic in its own right.

  1. We were looking around for a burger, and randomly stopped in front of S&M. It is the cutest place in the world. Very good crowd, european vibe, excellent service, fun to look at the chef preparing your meal directly behind the bar. If you get the little round table outside, you’ll get the vibe of the place, plus views of the sunset. And the burger is…. gorgeous! I highly recommend it!
