••• Heavens to Betsy! More burlesque is coming to the neighborhood: Macao Trading Co. has announced that its Drunken Dragon Night is a monthly affair that will, on Aug. 23, include “an explosively risqué [Not sure about that phrase. —Ed.] night of Burlesque Cabaret hosted by the infamous Calamity Chang.” Doors open at 9 p.m.; open bar till 11 p.m.; no cover (LOL!).

••• Today’s “side deal” at Groupon is $7 for a $15 walking tour with the lovely Joyce Gold, who I just hung out with to talk about her new Battery Park City tour.

••• Civil war at Bon Chon! Just came across this “official notice” from July 25 on the Bon Chon website: “Bonchon Inc. (The headquarter) has been receiving numerous reviews about 98 Chamber st branch that the chicken do not taste the same as before. Bonchon Inc would like to announce that Bonchon Chicken on 98 Chamber st. has not been using Bonchon’s sauce for past few month and they are serving different sauce. Chamber st location does not serve Bonchon Chicken any more. Please visit 104 John st location to place an order. 104 John St Bonchon Chicken phone: 646-682-7747 online order through seamlessweb.com or delivery.com.”

••• Tribeca Treats now carries gluten-free baking mixes from 1-2-3 Gluten Free. (And for the rest of us, I can personally vouch for Tribeca Treats’ cookie-of-the-month, the cinnamon-buttermilk cookie.)

••• While we’re on the subject of dietary restrictions: A devoted reader recently wondered if I couldn’t mention how good and affordable the café at 92YTribeca is, but I prefer when there’s a point. I thought about doing a roundup of lunch options you might be aware of—such as Moomah, which you can certainly enjoy even if you don’t have kids—but I couldn’t think of a third surprising option. Anyhow, I had lunch—roasted cauliflower-and-goat-cheese salad, toasted pumpernickel bagel—at 92YTribeca today, and as a mostly-vegetarian,* I appreciated that the restaurant is a Kosher dairy facility (no meat, just fish). And the food was very good!

••• Best Made Co. is now selling something called the Sporting Sail ($80). You can use it to “catch wind” on a skateboard or skis, to enhance your speed or not.

Here’s what it says: “Arguably one of the country’s most celebrated pastry provocateurs, Jehagnir Mehta has pushed palates—with his deliriously avant-garde creations at Jean Georges and Aix. Now, he branches out with this sweet-and-savory spot in the East Village, an eclectic shoebox-size boite which he designed himself. Mehta will be serving up equally eclectic, international small plates that will feature his trademark affinity for bold flavors and spices such as chilies, sambhar, tumeric and star anise.” Oh, for an editor! Anyway, that explains all the construction.

••• Wow. “The new Museum of Tolerance New York opened in the heart of Manhattan this week, citing an ambitious mission to help enlighten city residents and tourists on issues of discrimination, prejudice and social inequality. But the museum’s financial backer, the Wiesenthal Center of Los Angeles, says it cannot tolerate the planned location near Ground Zero for a mosque and Islamic community center. Rabbi Meyer May, the Wiesenthal Center’s executive director, on Thursday called the mosque’s proposed location ‘insensitive’ to the people who experienced the 9/11 attack that killed nearly 3,000 in 2001 and are still dealing with “extraordinarily painful wounds.’ ‘Religious freedom does not mean being insensitive…or an idiot,’ said Mr. May, who led the push for the museum’s New York location.” (Crain’s)

Even the stalled stuff! It’s an overwhelming look at the Lower Manhattan of the future.” (Curbed)

••• Sam Sifton of the New York Times loved Tamarind Tribeca, bestowing two stars on it: “In London, where marvelous Indian food is as much a part of the culinary landscape as French restaurants or steakhouses are here, Tamarind Tribeca might rate a pleasant shrug. But in Manhattan, it is shaping up to be the best thing to happen to Indian food since Hemant Mathur and Suvir Saran opened Devi in 2004.”

••• Time Out New York, meanwhile, likes Terroir Tribeca: “While the vino [who says that?] is the obvious draw, Canora’s excellent food menu—unctuous [yum?] bone-marrow toasts, lamb sausages swaddled [like babies in diapers?] in sage leaves and a deeply mineral Creekstone Farms steak—makes Terroir as good a place to eat as it is to drink. Old-world winos [German bums?] may scoff at Terroir’s populist positioning [dude, it's in Tribeca], but for those of us put off by the snooty ceremony of wine-bar culture, it’s a refreshing change of pace.”

••• “Hot Clay Oven, an Indian-fusion restaurant with aspirations of becoming a chain, will open its fist location at 101 Maiden Lane.” (Grub Street)

••• “Capsouto Frères has added a Combier Rouge Cherry Soufflé to its menu, made with fresh cherry jam, crème anglaise, and Combier Rouge liqueur cherry sauce. The dessert costs $10.50 and is available through the end of August.” (Grub Street)

••• As I believe I may have suggested, the W New York Downtown hotel is indeed discounting rooms around its mid-August opening. Only a fool would pay full price to stay in a new hotel, because things will go wrong.
••• Related: “HGTV will be handing over the keys to a 900-square-foot apartment in the Financial District’s brand new and highly delayed W New York Downtown condo/hotel to a contest winner. Like, to keep. Forever.” (Curbed) I walked by the building the other day, and there’s a big-in-a-cheesy-way neon sign for the BLT Bar & Grill in the hotel. How long till the BLT brand gets licensed out to airports? One year?

••• “A 27-year-resident of Battery Park City, Martha Gallo, has been nominated by Gov. David Paterson to serve on the board of the Battery Park City Authority.” (Broadsheet Daily)

••• “A group of film students were taken to the hospital Friday after drinking from a Downtown school’s water fountain that they claimed was spewing out unusually colored ‘blue’ water. Five students got sick after they drank from the fountain during a dance class at the New York Film Academy, inside Millennium High School at 75 Broad Street.” (DNAinfo)

••• “Jonathan Schrag and Kirstin H. Schrag bought a condo at 139 Chambers St. in Tribeca from Thomas Merrill and Mary B. Forshaw for $2.2 million on June 11. Unit #4 is in a cooperative apartment building with 10 units on 10 floors. Mr. Schrag is executive director of Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative Inc., which he joined in 2008.” (Blockshopper)
