IN THE NEWS
••• Sherlock Holmes director and Madonna ex Guy Ritchie is said to be opening a pub in Tribeca. It would be a sister property to the Punch Bowl, the pub he and his partners have in the Mayfair area of London. Says the Daily Mail: ”They had wanted a New York bar near Central Park but are understood to have settled on Tribeca, home to many celebrities.”

JUST POINTING OUT…
Even my grandmother-in-not-quite-law subscribes to the twice-weekly Tribeca Citizen newsletter, and she lives in Raleigh. The sign-up box is to the right; the joy you’ll get from receiving TC emails is unquantifiable.

••• “Towards Transculturalism,” the third installment of “Here + Now: Chinese Artists in New York” opens on February 11 at the Museum of Chinese in America. The four featured artists are Emily Cheng (whose “TreePlanet” is at left), Hung-Chic Peng, Yo Yo Xiao, and Shen Chen, and the exhibit is up through March 28.
••• The next Pen Parentis salon is Tuesday, Feb. 9, 6 p.m.–8 p.m. The featured authors will be Rachel Sherman, Mark Shulman, and Meg Mullins. What’s Pen Parentis? Read this.
••• At Barnes & Noble: Kim Barnouin (she’s promoting Skinny Couple in a Box, a boxed edition of Skinny Bitch and Skinny Bastard; Monday, Feb. 8) and Evan Mandery (First Contact, Or, It’s Later Than You Think, which is a novel; Wednesday, Feb 10).

STEALS AND DEALS
Just got an email from PB & Caviar: “We are having a huge sale!!! Women’s and children’s clothes are 75% off. Quantities are limited so hurry. The sale will end Feb. 28.” If you’ve never been, check it out—very cute store.

HELLO, TIGER
Tomorrow (Sunday), Museum of Chinese in America and the Children’s Museum of the Arts are cohosting a special Lunar New Year day for families, with “a storytelling Mandarin workshop, a noodle making demonstration, a special lion dance performance and workshop, a cake decorating workshop, and family-friendly gallery talks through MOCA’s core exhibit.” All ages, $10. The schedule is here; you can buy tickets in advance here; workshops are first come, first served. Bonus: During February, every paid admission to MOCA gets a red envelope with a coupon for $10 off membership or 10% off a purchase in the museum’s shop. And MOCA will be raffling off memberships and tiger cookies from Six Persimmons (left).

IN THE NEWS
••• Pearl Paint in on the ropes, as was noted here in December, and Pearl’s frame store is being dismantled. The Canal Street store will sell pre-made frames but it won’t do custom framing. (New York Times)

REAL ESTATE
••• “Marc Brown, the author and illustrator who created the Arthur series of books as well as the animated PBS show by the same name, has dropped the price of the 8,300-square-foot Tribeca townhouse (right) that he shares with his wife, Laurie Krasny Brown. The five-story building at 19 Jay Street, which the couple bought for $6.15 million in 2004 and put up for sale for $15.85 million in 2006, is now listed for $9.995 million.” Maybe they’ll take a check? (Cityfile)
••• Curbed wonders what’s wrong with a Thomas Street loft that got $551 per square foot.

“Express Your Inner Tiger at MOCA!” read the subject line of a recent email, which I have to admit raised my eyebrows…. Once I banished unpleasant thoughts about a certain professional golfer, I discovered interesting things in the email (which, I should mention, came from the Museum of Chinese in America and had to do with 2010 being the year of the tiger):

• Thursdays are free at the museum, courtesy of Target. Admission is normally $7.
• This Thursday, Jan. 28, artist Jimmy Ong—”one of Singapore’s pre-eminent contemporary artists,” he currently has a show at Tyler Rollins Fine Art in Chelsea—will give a talk at 6:30 p.m. (I included this work of Ong’s especially for Todd, who has been complaining that Tribeca Citizen doesn’t have enough any nudity.)
• The museum will have weekly Chinese-language classes from Feb. 20 to May 22, for children 5 and under. Classes are on weekends and the semester costs $420.
