Check out the menu (that's not it pictured). Plus: Know any good foreigners?; Girello adds to its menu; Luke's Lobster delivers.

••• Ristorante Aglio, opening Thursday as the TriBeCafe replacement, has posted its menu (including a $45 steak). Update: The way I wrote this, it looks like the photo goes with this item. It’s Girello’s menu.

••• OK, here’s something new and different. For a freelance project, I need to find people in the U.K., Canada, Mexico, Germany, and Japan to come to the USA on a four- or five-day trip in mid-January. The person would have to write blog entries (or at least tell me what they did each day), and take photos or maybe even video. So it would help if they were somewhat creative, but they shouldn’t be professional writers. They do need to be from the country in question (and not expats). It really should be easy and fun—they’d get to go somewhere of their own choosing (within limits), and on their own. If you know anyone who might be game, please have them email me at tribecacitizen@gmail.com.

••• Girello is now serving entrées (along with pizza and panini).

••• Luke’s Lobster in FiDi is now on Seamless.

Kang Tae Kwon Do. I know it had been in the area, but I thought it was on Broadway; its website says it’s at 85 Worth. I’d call and find out, but these little mysteries are what life is all about. Plus, I’m freelancing in a cubicle and it still feels awkward to talk on the phone.

••• Speaking of gyms: The word flying around is that 84 Franklin is going to become a personal-training gym. Working on finding out the name….

••• Ristorante Aglio, the replacement for the TriBeCafe space at 277 Church, is having its grand opening on Dec. 8.

••• P.S. 234′s Friends & Fashion sale is in the (mysterious) Viet Gallery spave on Greenwich, open 11 a.m. 7 p.m. from Tuesday to Friday.

••• The word on Twitter is that Matt Bernson (shoes) is having a holiday sample sale December 8–10 at 20 Harrison (formerly Capucine). I just sent him an email to confirm it. Update: I do love a fast response! It’s 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, with fall and spring styles, and it’s cash only.

And a menu overhaul was announced just over two weeks ago.... But there's some good news, too.

Just over two weeks ago, TriBeCafe announced a new menu heavy on tapas. So much for that. “We regret to inform you that TriBeCafe will be serving its last round of dinner and drinks on Friday, September 30,” said a release last night. “As of October 1, the restaurant-bar will officially be closed. A new restaurant is scheduled to open in its place later this year! While we cannot share any details on the new restaurant just yet, we believe that this change will ultimately be for the better, and we look forward to seeing your friendly, familiar faces again!”

Located at 277 Church, TriBeCafe was a half-sister to Greenwich Grill.

“Yes, it is a sudden change, given that we just launched a new menu,” emailed Yoko Izu, who handles PR, marketing and events for the restaurants. “But, we’re excited about the new restaurant that is in the works and think it will be a great addition to the little Restaurant Row that’s forming on Church Street.” Looking forward to it! Although Reboot Row might be a better name, seeing how White & Church (née Il Matto) and Stuzzicheria have both undergone recent reinventions and the Matsugen space is in a big question mark.

••• TriBeCafe sent over its new menu, launching Wednesday. (The restaurant is closed till then.) It is indeed tapa-centric, with Spanish influences elbowing their way into several dishes. (Blistered shishito peppers with yuzu salt? Count me in.) There are 17 small plates—including jamón croquettes, chorizo + beans, and blue cheese toast—and six entrées. The full menu is here.

••• Kevin Bacon took a nice photo of some Argentinian tourists in front of the old Columbine space. (And then another one of someone else.) I’m guessing that when people ask if they can take his photo, he takes theirs (instead?).

••• As touted in an HRP Mamas email, the Tone Academy of Music, a Suzuki school, has set up shop in the Space on White. Says the website: “Private lessons are available in violin, viola, piano, guitar, cello, voice, saxophone, flute, and recorder. Group class students will have the opportunity to try out percussion instruments as well as specialized Orff instruments.”

••• If you haven’t signed up for the Tribeca Citizen newsletter (look for “subscribe” in the upper right corner), what’s stopping you?

Or just a late-summer clean-up? Plus: BPC gym to turn resident-only; work for Nicola Formichetti or as an herb chef; menu shift at TriBeCafe.

••• The other day, a cleaning/construction crew of some kind was in the old Bouley Bakery/Market/Wine Bar space. Is something finally happening?

••• A reader tells me that Battery Park Swim & Fitness is closing for remodeling at the end of September, and when it reopens it’ll be for Gateway Plaza residents only. Perhaps they figured they wouldn’t be able to compete with Asphalt Green?

••• Want to work at the BOFFO Building Design pop-up (me neither), which I had thought was only Nicola Formichetti’s endeavor but actually involves a string of designers and architects? Here’s the Craigslist help-wanted ad.

••• Or maybe you’re more into herbs? Atera, where Compose was, has a position for you: “Position will require detailed knowledge of all culinary herbs. Responsibilities include market shopping, managing and harvesting several herb gardens on site, picking and prepping herbs for service. The cuisine is very herb focused—the position will be of central importance for the dining experience.”

••• On Sept. 7, TriBeCafe will launch a new tapas-style menu (after being closed Sept. 4–6): Dishes will include “Prosciutto Croquettes (with a crisp breaded shell that breaks open to reveal a creamy potato filling studded with salty pieces of prosciutto) and Shisito Frito (fried shisito peppers served with a little mound of yuzu citrus salt).”

Car-crash fetishists, Sheryl Crow, kite-making workshops, and nibblybits are some of the highlights on this week’s agenda.

Here are just a few of the highlights on tap this week. More info on these—and the full slate—is in the Tribeca calendar of events.

Monday
“Properties of Play,” Canal Park Playhouse’s improv-theater thingamajig—just watch the video—makes its fortnightly appearance.

Tuesday
The Tribeca Meet & Greet is at Tribeca Beauty Spa. Organized by the BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center, it’s for business owners to network and locals to just come say hi. Wine by Frankly Wines; nibblybits by MaxDelivery. ••• Sheryl Crow, who has a new cookbook (If It Makes You Healthy: More Than 100 Delicious Recipes…), is at Barnes & Noble Tribeca. Here’s one of Sheryl’s two best songs. Too bad about all the sexyface in the video, though.

Wednesday
TriBeCafe celebrates cherry-blossom time with a party—cheap drinks and proceeds benefiting Japan earthquake relief.

Thursday
Speaking of Japan: City Winery’s big “Bridge to Japan” benefit is tonight. Lots of great talent.

Friday
Creepy movie Crash—not the Oscar winner, the David Cronenberg one about people who fetishize car accidents—is at 92YTribeca. “Great movie, huh?” I can hear someone asking you afterward. “Want a lift?”

Sunday
The Museum of Chinese in America’s Qing Ming Festival will include “kite making workshops, a family tree workshop, arts and crafts drop in stations as well as teaching artists’ demonstrations.” ••• Princess Katie and Racer Steve play for the kids at 92YTribeca. ••• South African star Johnny Clegg is at City Winery. I saw him open for Tracy Chapman once—dating myself here—and he put on a heck of a show.

As for ongoing events, you might consider…
”Goldilocks and the Three Bears”—with live music—at Manhattan Children’s Theatre. More video!

A performance by the film’s subject—Elton John—will follow the free, outdoor screening to kick off the Festival’s 10th edition and thank the New York City community for its ongoing support. The Union will premiere on Wednesday, April 20 at the North Cove at the World Financial Plaza. [...] The Union is an unprecedented and personal look at the creative life of Elton John and the remarkable collaborative album with Leon Russell, produced by T-Bone Burnett.” Well, it’s better than Shrek 5. Though you could just watch a smaller version on DVD.

••• About that Borders “liquidation” sale: As commenter Philip Maher pointed out, “They’re offering 20% to 40% off the merchandise, and that means 20% off anything worth looking at.” I stopped by today, hoping there was something interesting happening, and from what I could tell the sale is 20% off everything except magazines, which are 40% off. If anyone notices that the store is taking the sale up a few notches, let me know.

••• TriBeCafe announced a “late night happy hour” from 10 p.m. to midnight, to go with its normal happy hour from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

••• I got excited when I saw this email from Albert Trummer: “I am pleased to announce that Theater Bar, my new experiment in mixology and entertainment, is opening to the public. [...] A new Twitter page (@TheaterBarNYC) has been created so you can follow our hourly countdown until the curtain goes up at Theater Bar, I will be posting sneak previews of the new cocktails as well.” Then I went to the Twitter page: It’s opening in “733 hours,” a.k.a. one month.

••• From Crewcuts: “Citibabes & crewcuts will be launching a special monthly reading hour for children in the neighborhood at crewcuts. The first Wednesday of each month, there will be a story time at the new crewcuts store in Tribeca from 11 a.m.–12 p.m. It starts March 9 with a St. Patrick’s Day theme.” <del>Free green beer!</del>

••• James at the Downtown Alliance posted this on the group’s blog: “In a tribute to famed British street artist Banky, yarn artist Agata Oleksiak has installed five versions of a Banksy design—a girl being carried away by balloons. Oleksiak, also known as Olek, has placed the tributes around the city in surprise locations. Yesterday, my colleague Nick found one just blocks from our office.” Olek was the one who knit a sweater for the Wall Street bull.

Plus: Jumbo pasta; Project No. 8's post-pop-up plans; cute T-shirt; Il Matto discount; Taste of Tribeca tickets.

••• I learned something interesting at jury duty this morning (confirmed by phone): Borders Wall Street—which will close by the end of April—is having a liquidation sale.

••• Half-portions are for losers: TriBeCafe is now offering pastas one-and-a-half times the normal size. (I don’t recall them being all that big to begin with.)

••• The Project No. 8 pop-up shop on Duane is supposed to close at the end of the month. I emailed co-owner Brian Janusiak to confirm it, and here’s what he said: “We always planned on ending sometime in the middle of February, but thought we would just end more naturally at the end of the month. This was predicated on our thinking we had the space until March 1. As crazy as it sounds, and maybe a little too telling about how many directions our attention is focused in, we found out that our lease is up at the end of March instead. So… we thought it would be great to keep our plan in place and then use the ‘extra-surprise-month’ to do a special project in the space, perhaps around Armory.” [The Armory is a modern/contemporary art show being held Mar. 3–6 this year.] He also said a lot of nice things about being in Tribeca; I think no one ever told him that fashion/design people are supposed to be unpleasant.

••• New at Babesta: This cute shirt by Infinitee. (“Just the one?” was my reply.)

••• Spotted this on Twitter: “Today, DineTonite adds Il Matto of Tribeca. Book a reservation through us and receive 25% off your ENTIRE check. No coupons necessary!” Not sure what DineTonightTonite is—like OpenTable? If anyone looks it up, feel free to explain in the comments.

••• Taste of Tribeca tickets go on sale online as of March 1; early-bird tickets are $35. The event is May 21.
