In the News: Stuyvesant Stupidity

••• “City Education officials are investigating whether students at prestigious Stuyvesant High School made an amateur rap video laced with racist lyrics, an agency spokeswoman said. The five-minute, 41-second video was posted Monday on YouTube under the headline: ‘Stuyvesant High School Students Spewing Racist Hatred.'” Yeah, keepin’ it rough in a lavender Lacoste. (Daily News) Update 3/3: They’re being disciplined. (Daily News)

••• DNAinfo and Broadsheet Daily attended the CB1 Battery Park City committee meeting so we didn’t have to that discussed the behavior of PEP officers, the BPC security guards.

••• Someone wrote into the Broadsheet Daily asking about how the city’s ban on smoking in parks will affect Battery Park City. The Broadsheet Daily’s answer: “According to the Mayor’s Office, the Mayor has until March 11th to sign the  no-smoking in parks ban, and the law will take effect on May 23rd. Each fine for smoking will be $50; however, they are counting on community members reporting smokers rather than dedicating a lot of enforcement. Smoking is only banned in the officially designated park area and pedestrian malls like Times Square. Battery Park City Authority will issue its regulations when it hears from the Parks Department, but they have three months to design an enforcement plan.” The italics are mine: That’s creepy.

••• The Friends of Finn Square wrote into the Tribeca Trib soliciting help (donations, volunteers, etc.) for a “special facelift” in 2011: “Make checks payable to Friends of Finn Square and mail c/o Jessica Raimi, 6 Varick #7A, New York, NY 10013. Contributions are tax-deductible.”

••• “At press time, The Hideaway was still waiting word from its insurance company for the go-ahead to start [post-fire] construction, which [manager Ana] Kostakos estimated would take just a couple of days.” (Tribeca Trib)

••• Larger families are all the rage, say the New York Post, quoting Tribeca hexamom (and wine wholesaler) Brenda Di Bari and FiDi stay-at-home quadramom Lauren McGeough.
