Valentine No. 3

#3. I wrote about the cuts and patches in the granite sidewalks a while back—with a big tip of the hat to Linda Pollak of Marpillero Pollak Architects on Duane—and I still get a kick from them every time I see them. (Many are coal-chute covers, and the etching around them is to divert water to the gutter.) Of course, what I love even more than the cuts and patches are the granite sidewalks themselves. Are they disappearing one by one? I saw what looked like one piece being removed from in front of the ophthalmology office coming to Reade, never to come back.
