Seen & Heard: iPic Tickets on Sale

••• iPic sent out an email saying tickets (from Oct. 7) are on sale for the Seaport District location. I think I’m going to wait and hope Passengers plays there.

••• A reader’s cry for help: “There’s a food cart at the corner of Greenwich and Warren (right by PS. 234) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. He never leaves. Plus, he has these lights around his cart that are very bright. I don’t understand how he has a permit to be in this neighborhood 24/7. Is there any law about this? Do you know anyone I can contact?” I suggested CB1, because they’d know which agency to contact, but maybe you’ve had some experience with this problem elsewhere? I know folks who can’t stand the one that’s always at the southwest corner of Church and Murray.

••• From Friends of Washington Market Park: “The Parks Department notified us this afternoon that Washington Market Park will be closed on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday (October 3, 4, 6, 7) for tree pruning. The basketball courts and tennis court will remain open.”

••• The annual sale at Joseph Carini Carpets is Oct. 13 and 14, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

••• I forgot to mention something NYPD deputy inspector Mark Iocco said at the recent 1st Precinct Community Council meeting: “It’s not a good time to throw out your Crock-Pot by leaving it on the street.” It was funny, so we all laughed, but his point was a good one: Make sure your garbage looks like garbage and not a bomb.

••• Through Oct. 7 at hpgrp Gallery: “the fourth edition of [hpgrp’s] Monster Exhibition! Founded in 2011, the exhibition is the result of an open call competition for artistic responses to the great Eastern Japanese Earthquake and subsequent tsunami. Artists were invited to submit mediums ranging from paintings, sculpture, illustration, to architecture, video and graphic design. The theme of ‘Kaiju’ applies the Japanese pop tradition of the giant kaiju monsters as a metaphoric celebration of the triumph of human and artistic spirit in the wake of disaster. Artists were free to interpret the theme however they like, with many responding to the recent earthquake in Kumamoto. In the Monster exhibition we see not only expressions of grief, but also expressions of humanity, activism, and self-expression.”

monster-at-hpgrp-gallery••• The new subway entrance—located on Park Place, but for the Chambers A/C/E and Park Place 2/3 stations—appears open. (The stairs, that is; the elevator is not.) The translucent roof will make the stairs a lovely place to hang out and check one’s phone.

  1. Great idea, close the local park when schools are closed Monday and Tuesday.

  2. All mobile food vending units – except units that sell only prepackaged foods and Green Carts (which sell only fresh fruits and vegetables) — are required to return to a Department-of-Health-permitted commissary as often as necessary to be serviced, but at least once every 24 hours.

See Section 89.19(l) of the Health Code (part of Title 24 of the Rules of the City of New York (“RCNY”)) and Section 6-04 of 24 RCNY

Mobile Food Vendors include both trucks and food carts.

    Inspection Reports:

    http://www1.nyc.gov/nyc-resources/service/2035/mobile-food-vendor-inspection-report

“You can request inspection reports for mobile food vendors. No more than 5 reports in total may be requested.

“You should mail your request to the:
NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
Bureau of Food Safety and Community Sanitation
    Mobile Food Vending Program
    253 Broadway, 13th Floor, CN-59A
    New York, NY 10007

“You must include the permit number found on the food cart, truck, or stand as well as the street location and borough of the vendor.”

  3. “I know folks who can’t stand the one that’s always at the southwest corner of Church and Murray.”

That one should not be there during legally prohibited days and hours.

  4. Very nice subway entrance design. I hope it ages well with weather.

Although I would prefer the Budapest style station entrances (such as the Astor Place entrance):
