Seen & Heard: Beautiful Bridal Shoot

••• There was quite the photo shoot yesterday outside Maman. It was for BHLDN, “vintage-inspired, beautifully crafted attire & decorations for your wedding or special event.” The front-on view was actually better, but I was too timid to join the crowd watching. The second photo is by CC Yearout.

••• Someone had a smart idea for the 1st Precinct.

••• While I was being proactive, I checked in with city comptroller Scott Stringer about 101 Barclay and the many other buildings that are supposed to have “privately owned public spaces”—promised in exchange to build bigger—but don’t. Or does his job end with the issuing of a report? If BNY Mellon isn’t going to let us enjoy the lobby at 101 Barclay, then it should pony up in some other way. For instance, it could endow Friends of Bogardus Plaza.

••• This year’s Taste of the Seaport—the eighth one!—is Saturday, October 21. Buy tickets now. (Cut at the Four Seasons is among the participants. Can we expect a turf war with Taste of Tribeca? A PTA rumble at Peck Slip?)

••• There’s fancy signage up for the retail spaces at 140 West, and the listing indicated that the big one is still available. Nike and Under Armour had been rumored to be interested at various points.

••• Adidas is shooting something an ad tomorrow in the Broadway/Park Place area.  The quotation marks around the title make me hope it’s actually a teen comedy called “All Day I Dream About Sex,” as we used to refer to the brand when I was a kid.

  1. Here’s how Comptroller’s audits work: They issue a preliminary report, the agency being audited responds to the findings, they negotiate and the Comptroller issues a final report. The agency formally responds with a compliance plan. The agency is supposed to implement the corrective actions agreed to, which can take years. I don’t recall if the Comptroller follows up.

Your first stop for compliance information would be the Commissioner of the agency audited. It might be interesting to request the compliance plan, if it isn’t included in the report. It can be FOILed.

Since the agency cited is a “Mayoral agency,” if the Commissioner is unresponsive, you could follow up with those tasked with overseeing it: the Deputy Mayor to whom the agency responds, the City Council subcommittee. The Deputy Mayor is a much better bet.

The BNY Mellon situation is especially egregious because the guards come out, tell you to stop and threaten you when you try to take a picture of that sign.

  2. Nope, no turf war. We wish our friends at Taste of the Seaport good weather and good luck! CUT by Wolfgang Puck put on an incredible display at Taste of Tribeca last year; we’re sure they will do the same on Oct. 21.

  3. That is outrageous (but not unexpected) land grab of a public space by BNY Mellon. Space grabbers (like AT&T Long Lines building) should be given meaningful fines. Maybe a simple doubling of their property taxes would get their attention.

  4. Let’s see how 101 Barclay certifies this violation “corrected” (or the one issued before it):
