Spring Studios Wants to Expand Its Rooftop Usage

From Community Board 1…. The agendas can be seen here, and they often change without notice. My comments are indented on the line below.

Please note that this is a preliminary list. Notify CB1 two days in advance if wheelchair access is required.

Tribeca
1) 50 Varick Street, application for in method of operation change for rooftop usage, hours and sound amplification for Spring Studios – Resolution

Spring Studios sure has chutzpah. CB1 should refuse to OK any expansion of the rooftop use until Spring starts acting in good faith. And if you live within a three-block radius of 50 Varick, you should be extremely concerned about the “sound amplification” part of this request.

2) 393 Broadway, application for a liquor license for an LLC to be formed by Dothin Negrin – Resolution

That’s the event space for pop-ups formerly called The Supermarket and now 393 NYC. The recent misguided piece on Canal Street in the New York Times says that Negrin’s first name is actually Dotan, and he’s (also) a musician.

3) Street Activity Permit Office application for New York Fashion Week: The Shows; Street event; Setup begins August 29, 2018 at 12 AM; Event spans from September 6, 2018 at 9:00 AM through September 13, 2018 at 9:00 PM; Breakdown finishes on September 15, 2018 at 11:59 PM; Multiple Streets – Resolution
4) The following notices have been received for renewal, upgrade, corporate change, minor alteration or transfer of wine and beer or liquor licenses, renewal of sidewalk café permits and recurring street closure permits:
—Street Activity Permit Office application for the “Annual Block Party”; Block Party; Sunday, September 16, 2018; 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM; Reade Street between Broadway and Church Street – Resolution

Is it too much to ask that CB1 include who is throwing the event?

—15 Sixth Avenue, application for renewal of liquor license for Tribeca Tavern
—385 Greenwich Street, application for renewal of liquor license for Yves

Financial District
1) 213-221 Pearl Street, application for liquor license for Lam Pearl Street Hotel – Resolution
2) 70 Pine Street, application for wine and beer license for Blue Park – Resolution
3) 100 Church Street Club, Inc. application for liquor license for 100 Church Club, Inc. – Resolution

The Liquor License Application Questionnaire Summary submitted to CB1 says that the applicant is Douglas McMahon; no mention is made of “financier Joe Lewis, golfing greats Tiger Woods and Ernie Els, and actor and musician Justin Timberlake,” who are cited on the Nexus Luxury Collection website. The 34,000-square-foot private club is on the seventh floor of 100 Church.

4) 515 Hay Road at Governors Island, application for liquor license – Resolution
5) 26 Vesey Street, application for wine and beer license for Panchak Aggarwal – Resolution
6) 11 Stone Street, application for liquor license for The Mint – Resolution
7) The following notices have been received for renewal, upgrade, corporate change, minor alteration or transfer of wine and beer or liquor licenses, renewal of sidewalk cafe permits and recurring street closure permits:
—88 Broad Street, application for renewal of liquor license for Broadstone Tap House
—2 Broadway, application for renewal of liquor license foe Chipotle Mexican Grill

Battery Park City
1) 1 Liberty Plaza, Floors 2-3, application for liquor license for Convene Liberty – Resolution
2) 1 Liberty Plaza, Ground Floor, application for liquor license for Convene Liberty – Resolution
3) The following notices have been received for renewal, upgrade, corporate change, minor alteration or transfer of wine and beer or liquor licenses, renewal of sidewalk café permits and recurring street closure permits:
—225 Liberty Street, application for renewal of beer and cider license for Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar

Seaport/Civic Center area
1) 95 South Street Building C, application for liquor license for Pier 17 Restaurant C101 – Resolution
2) The following notices have been received for renewal, upgrade, corporate change, minor alteration or transfer of wine and beer or liquor licenses, renewal of sidewalk café permits and recurring street closure permits:
—5 Beekman Street, application for renewal of liquor license for The Beekman Temple Court Alleycat Lounge and Theatre

7/12 Landmarks & Preservation Committee – 6:00 PM
Location: Community Board 1 – Conference Room, 1 Centre Street, Room 2202A-North
1) 412 Broadway, application for approval of revision to previously approved window replacement plan – Resolution
2) 39-41 Worth Street, application for partial floor rooftop addition on an existing five-story – Resolution

It’s hard to imagine that any rooftop addition wouldn’t be visible from across W. Broadway.

3) 83-85 Worth Street, application for ground floor restoration, rear façade alterations and rooftop addition – Resolution

The storefront of 83-85 Worth could certainly use attention, but I do hope the addition won’t be visible from the street—that’s a lovely strip of buildings.

7/17 Waterfront, Parks & Resiliency Committee – 6:00 PM
Location: Community Board 1 – Conference Room, 1 Centre Street, Room 2202A-North
1) Passive House (Follow-up from Resiliency Sub-Committee) – Resolution
2) Hudson River Park Trust RFPs and Events – Presentation (tentative)
3) Barnett Newman Triangle – Update (tentative)

That’s the concrete island bordered by Franklin, Church, and Sixth. DDG, developer of 100 Franklin, had said it would redo the triangle into more of a park.

7/18 Executive Committee – 6:00 PM
Location: Community Board 1 – Conference Room, 1 Centre Street, Room 2202A-North
1) Howard Hughes Corp Purchase of 250 Water Street – Presentation, Saul Scherl, HHC

I’d bet $20 he’ll say the company has no plans to announce yet. HHC tends to dump its news via the Post, which is odd since it’s trying to make the Seaport District upscale and the Post is anything but.

2) Board Processes: Monthly Meeting Duration, Timeliness of Resolution Submissions, & Quorum – Discussion
3) Committee reports

7/19 Quality of Life & Service Delivery Committee – 6:00 PM
Location: Community Board 1 – Conference Room, 1 Centre Street, Room 2202A-North

2) Commercial Sanitation at Chick-Fil-A on Fulton – Discussion

  1. Anyone have any idea what happened to Serafina’s sidewalk cafe request? It was postponed last month and isn’t on the agenda for July yet.
