Vestry Street woman found murdered at her NJ home

News sources reported last night that Paula Chin, the owner of 17 Vestry Street for 32 years, was found murdered at her second home in Morristown, N.J. Police said Chin, 65, was most likely killed in her building sometime after Monday, when she was reported missing by a relative, and her body was then transported to New Jersey. NBC 4 New York had the story first, at 10 yesterday morning.

Police arrested her son Jared Eng, 22, a student at SUNY New Paltz and a 2014 graduate of Brooklyn Tech, as well as Caitlyn O’Rourke, 21, of Patterson, N.Y., and Jennifer Lopez, 18, of Manhattan. All three were brought into the 1st Precinct and charged with concealing a body, according to reports in the dailies. The Trib has these photos of the suspects.

Chin was a volunteer for Hudson River Park and was involved in other neighborhood and national organizations. According to city records, Chin and her husband, Philip Eng, purchased 17 Vestry — a two-story building with three units — 32 years ago, in 1987. That same year Chin incorporated a school supply business, Pyceco Distribution Corp., at that same address. The Journal reported that Philip Eng died several years ago.
