Polarn O. Pyret will close at the end of the month

Polarn O. Pyret, the Swedish children’s clothing store that has been at 200 Chambers for a decade, will close its doors at the end of this month. A tip came in last month, and the bad news was confirmed by Jennifer Athanason, who owns the franchise for North America with her husband. The store opened in the fall of 2011.

“It is truly a sad event,” Jennifer said in an email, “but we have had a good 10-year run and our lease expires this spring and with the pandemic and the complications caused by it, my husband and I have made the tough decision to close our few stores and concentrate online. We have the full support of Sweden in this decision, of course.”

It’s been a long time since my kids fit into those adorable striped togs, but I still perused the store once in a while — couldn’t help myself — and I will hate to see this long stretch of Chambers vacant.

Jennifer asked me to let everyone know that the store will offer some enticing deals to work through the remaining merch there over the next weeks…

  1. Sad. Will be missed walking past their playful and sweet window displays.

  2. I think Roller Rabbit has also closed on Duane. Can you confirm? Will they be opening back up? Its so sad to see all these stores closing.

    • I posted an update about it — they are using it as an office for now, since traffic was so slow, but they are open by appointment. The CEO of the company also added a comment, for more information.

  3. O no!
As a Swede in Tribeca this is sad news. Always enjoyed passing by. It reminded me about my hometown of Stockholm. My son was 9 when they moved in and I got a few years to enjoy the amazing quality and traditional P&P stripes. / Suzannah
