Seen & Heard: Sushi of Gari coming along

SUSHI OF GARI GETTING UPGRADES
The sushi restaurant on the corner of Duane and West Broadway is getting a nice spiffing up. Their plan was to be open in October; my guess it will be open shortly, though the reservations site is not active yet.

180 THE STORE HAS EXPANDED DOWNSTAIRS
180 The Store, at 180 Duane, has added to its housewares and furniture collection, converting the downstairs office to a new showroom. The upstairs is still largely clothing, but with a new display of Frama home goods, furniture and apothecary from Denmark.

NEW MARKET BUILDING IS RAZED
The New Market Building at the Seaport, just north of the Tin Building and Pier 17, has been demolished by the city. It was abandoned for years, and some preservations had sought to protect it, but after a homeless woman was murdered there in March 2021, the city finally acted.

PATRON OF THE NEW EXPANDING TO MIAMI
The store on Franklin that sells up-and-coming yet radically expensive designer clothing is opening another store in Miami, word on the street has it.

BUDDHA-BAR ADDING SUNDAY SERVICE
Buddha-Bar restaurant, which opened in the former Megu space in July, has added Sunday service to its hours, from 5 to 11:30p.

  1. Woof. Not a fan of the name.

  2. Regarding the New Market Building, the NYCEDC was given responsibility for maintaining the structure built in 1939 and used continuously by the Fish merchants until 2005. Under their watch the pilings were not maintained and it was falling into the river. Given its pedigree and its historical significance as a public market, “preservationists” were hoping that it could be repurposed for another public use.

  3. Sushi of Gari reopened on Tuesday by the way!

Chanson also appears to be open.
