Friends of Bogardus says they hope to have the Z Eatz food kiosk, which will be run by Zucker’s, open by May 16.

BPC CONCERTS TONIGHT AND SUNDAY
As part of the Strings on Hudson series, the Villalobos Brothers will play today for Cinco de Mayo at Belvedere Plaza at 6:30p. The event is free. “One of today’s leading Contemporary Mexican ensembles, their original compositions and arrangements masterfully fuse and celebrate the richness of Mexican folk music with the intricate harmonies of jazz and classical music.”

And on Sunday, in Wagner Park at 11a, there will be a Mother’s Day drumline and dance performance by Bandwith Chicago, a nonprofit that provides performing arts access to under-resourced Chicago youth.

GrowNYC HOSTS STOP N SWAP MONDAY
GrowNYC and Pace University are hosting a Stop ‘N’ Swap — a free event where you bring clean, reusable, portable items (clothing, housewares, games, books, toys) that you no longer need, and take home something new-to-you, free — at 1 Pace Plaza (main entrance on Park Row) on May 9 from noon to 3p. Note that while you don’t need to bring something to take something, you do need valid ID, proof of vaccination and a face covering for entry. For more information email recycle@grownyc.org.

RAINMAKERS ON MURRAY
If you happened to see it rain on Murray Street last night, it was for a new miniseries with Clive Owen called “Retreat.”

OPEN STUDIOS AT NYAA
The New York Academy of Art will hold its annual Open Studios event on Thursday, May 12, from 5:30 to 8:30p, at the school at 111 Franklin. This is a free event and is open to the public, where guests can tour the students’ studios and have the opportunity to purchase artwork. New York Academy of Art Open Studios No RSVP needed. Proof of vaccination required.

  1. What is going on with the helicopters hovering everyday around 5pm? This is a ridiculous noise problem and totally unnecessary. Any monitoring of traffic, etc which requires hovering could be done safer, cheaper and quieter using a drone.

    • They’re sightseeing helicopter tour rides. Horrible noise pollution.

    • Would a tourist helicopter be hovering? I think they’re usually ~15-minute rides so I don’t think they hang around like that. It may be a news helicopter. We used to have a problem with them hovering above BPC to get a shot of the harbor for a backdrop on their morning news programs. Maybe they’re doing something similar for an evening news program? If you can see an identifying name on them, check that channel and see what they’re showing, then complain to the station and cc every politician up the chain.

      • There are NYC helicopter tour ride companies that do indeed hover, yes. There is a local organization called Stop The Chop that works to stop the issue.
