Seen & Heard: Le Gratin is open

BOUCHON LYONNAIS ON BEEKMAN
Le Gratin, the “Bouchon Lyonnais” from chef Daniel Boulud, is now open, having taken over the former Augustine space in the Beekman Hotel on the corner of Nassau. It has a cartoon image of the chef on the glass! I will head over there soon.

PACE TOWER ON ITS WAY UP
And in other Beekman Street news, the tower being built for Pace University is at three stories and counting towards a 27-story total on the corner of Nassau. You may recall that neighbors tried to fight the destruction of the 1892 McKim, Mead & White Classic Revival 14-story tower on that site. It never scored landmark status.

TAKAHACHI IS OPEN FOR LUNCH
I see that Takahachi is now open for lunch: Tuesday to Friday, noon to 2:30, on Duane.

MEXICAN ON GREENWICH HAS A NAME
The fourth new Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood is coming along. It’s called Caliza (and Caliza Home, but not sure about that part yet) and hopefully I will have more details soon. They are building an outdoor structure on the N. Moore side of 378 Greenwich, right across from Citi (this photo is now a month old so they have made more progress). They got their liquor license pre-pandemic; nice that they were still able to pull it off since that space has been empty for five? six? years.

  1. Another building next to the Beekman. Seems like those condos will be really boxed in. If you recall when they went (and sold) the building on Park Row were not there and now this.
