Community Board 1 agendas for April

Didn’t I *just* queue this list up for March? Where do these months go??

Community Board members, applicants and public members *may* be required to attend in person. If they do return to an in-person meeting format, the public is still encouraged to follow the meetings virtually.

So until further notice, meetings are still here online and are recorded and posted to the board’s YouTube page. You can also find documents and draft resolutions here. As always, contact the board at man01@cb.nyc.gov. My comments in caps.

  1. Re Barcade @ 45 West Broadway:
CB1 defines North side of Murray as Tribeca, and South side as Fidi. So 45 is in fidi

    • Agreed! Everything south of Murray is FiDi.

Also, you missed the liquor license for 66 Pearl! :-). This is the old Lovelace space, a large and prominent space on the corner of Pearl and Counties Slip. Fascinated to see who is taking that space.

      • The city has a tourism display on the corner of Barclay/Church in front of the Catholic Church that says that the street is still in Tribeca. And the Four Seasons across the street claims they are in Tribeca as well.

I actually remember being contacted by an outreach effort (maybe it was made by Google?) about 6-7 years ago trying to formalize the southern border of Tribeca. The delineation that seems to be used by Google and some of the city organizations aside from CB1 now is Vesey Street, which seems to designate the World Financial Center as the clear cut-off. To me this makes more sense than Murray. Once you get below City Hall Park, the area starts to change quite dramatically. Nothing on Murray or Park Place are really that different from Warren St.

    • Definitely not my definition! I would be surprised if the folks who live in 50 Murray or even 100 Barclay say they live in Fidi…

      • I mean.. for example… 100 Barclay Street clearly says on the entry mat “100 Barclay St, Tribeca”

        I don’t consider Barclay St Fidi either…

      • You can rent or buy an apartment in Tribeca Pointe, Tribeca Green, Tribeca Park and Tribeca Bridge Tower. Would you be living in Tribeca? All of these buildings are between West Street and the Hudson River (presumably Battery Park City, not Tribeca).

I think of 100 Barclay and the Four Seasons as part of Tribeca but I wouldn’t define the boundary based on real estate developer claims.

And why do we need a defined boundary anyway? All of the people in the Battery Park City “Tribeca” buildings are part of the same community as Tribeca residents. We shop in the same stores, use the same subways, eat in the same restaurants, take our kids to the same playgrounds….

        • All neighborhoods have boundaries, it’s just that Tribeca’s southern boundary is harder to pin down. And sure, I use Battery Park City parks, but as someone who lives east of West Street, I cannot say I live in Battery Park City. Or Soho, or Chinatown, etc.

  2. Understood. But the establishment of the Tribeca Mixed Use District runs the southern boundary right across the middle of Murray.

  3. This new place in the old Amish sounds like a horrible addition to the hood. Lots of people from other areas, tourists, etc.
All drinking and hanging out. Just when Murray St.had started to come up in the world. Very sad news for Murray St residents.
