Do the police no longer do foot patrol? I am constantly out walking my dog and I can't recall ever seeing a police officer. The corner of Reade/Greenwich should also be a concern. With the gym gone and the lights out it has become a very dark, desolate corner after 8pm. — paul on In the News: Crime Spike in Lower Manhattan
I find it VERY interesting that Winston basically blames ClassPass for this closing. It's a great gym, sad to see it go. — Nicole on Drill Fitness is Closing
A few more muggings as well if you read the police blotter (not the article) That had nothing to do with citibikes. Good question as to why someone would steal a citibike? They are awful — Rohin on In the News: Crime Spike in Lower Manhattan
100% right. The esplanade is often a complete zoo not suited well for runners. — MFS on Seen & Heard: Is the Bike Path Finally Ready to Open?
No, unless you mean the construction of Citi Bike racks. Crime was driven so low, any small fluctuation in absolute terms makes the percentages look big. "'Last year was a historic low,' Iocco noted." One extra robber, 2 extra burglars, and people inexplicably stealing Citi bikes basically drove the bulk of the spike, per the article. — James on In the News: Crime Spike in Lower Manhattan
With that many vacancies -- and how many in the last year and a half?... -- one could argue things are past the point of ready recovery. Time to pack up and move; I shall avoid telling you my destination, lest you all follow and screw this 'hood up too. — Rassendyll on Ghost Town
I'm afraid that what we are most likely to get is -- another empty storefront! Why lease it out to another grocery when you can keep the space empty for the next decade, in hopes that some super-luxury company comes in willing to pay an exorbitant rent??? I'm among the neighborhood FE mourners who will miss all the non-fancy necessities that Food Emporium stocked. And I never once found a rude employee. — G. Z. Louise on Update on Food Emporium and Fairway
Um, the quality of life started going south about 15 years ago. All the stuff that made the Washington Market district a joy began going away. Riverrun was fun; Tribeca Grill is just Hollywood. Go down the list: Fun went away and what's left is just glitter. Lots of old residents applauded it; now they can move out. The city government will applaud and your electeds will rejoice. REBNY will say "good riddance" -- even the first wave of post-9/11 types no longer fit the profile of "desirables". — Rassendyll on Is the Food Emporium Closing?
Crime Spike / Construction Spike - Does anyone think there just might be some correlation between the two? — Rohin on In the News: Crime Spike in Lower Manhattan
that makes sense. It was odd having two such large branches so close to each other — Liat on TD Bank Is Closing a Branch
At one point I think Bouley was looking to put a restaurant in that location. — Makes you go "hmmm..." on TD Bank Is Closing a Branch

I'm pretty sure people that live there won't be lighting up their apartments in 10000 watt construction lights. — lowphat on Seen & Heard: Dahlia’s Is Closed for Repairs

I meant where the windows are boarded up. — Erik Torkells on Seen & Heard: A Peek Inside the Bennett Bar
Photo looks more like where HRP hasn't finished the park yet (ever). More likely I think the hoist would be in grassy area on NE corner of N. Moore & West Streets, on Citi's property, not across a major "highway." — Robert Ripps on Seen & Heard: A Peek Inside the Bennett Bar
I will miss the EMP. It is not fair to brand all of the employees as rude. When certain products I used were no longer on the shelves, I asked the managers if they could get them back and they did. One delivery man has worked there forever and he is a real sweetheart. Like most things we deal with, the EMP was a bit of the good, the good, the bad and the ugly. — Huck's Mom on Update on Food Emporium and Fairway
This makes total sense for the Fulton Mall. It can't ALL be luxury everywhere and shouldn't be. We need to have regular stores as well and this is a subway station after all. That said, what we DON'T need is another Dunkin Donuts. I hope Irving Farm does most of the business here. — Luis Vazquez (FiDi Fan Page) on Who’s Onboard at the Fulton Center
There is a difference between runners and pedestrians and it not acceptable to expect the runners to use the pedestrian walkway along the esplanade. The surface (pavers vs. blacktop) does not work for running long distances. Additionally, there are a number of children on foot, bikes and scooters along the esplanade and it becomes an obstacle course for a runner to swerve past them all. The bikeway needs to be shared with runners, just as the East and West drives in Central Park are shared with runners and bikers. — AliceG on Seen & Heard: Is the Bike Path Finally Ready to Open?
If you'll like my pages I'll like yours... — Robert Ripps on Where in Tribeca…?
It does sort of feel like the Fulton Center imay wind up being the "low-end" part of the WTC mall, doesn't it? All of these make total sense for a train station, but this list doesn't compare to the parade of luxury going in across the street... I wonder if some of the higher-end tenants on this list are going to wind up with some buyer's remorse after they see the company they're keeping. — mg on Who’s Onboard at the Fulton Center
I liked the vibe and location but cash only policy was a problem. — Mac McCobb on Café Noir Has Gone Dark
Food Deplorium! The produce was marginal and the staff are very rude. What can be done to get Fairway to move into the space? Fairway has its internal issues but I'm sure a market analysis would prove Fairway in the Food Emporium space would be a good fit. — CCC on Update on Food Emporium and Fairway
