Another Closing

The Little Pie Company has packed up its shop at Chambers and Greenwich and left the neighborhood (guys were loading equipment into a truck this afternoon). “Business was bad,” explained director of operations Danny Garcia, who agreed that the construction there couldn’t have helped. It opened just over a year ago—in November 2009—and the abundance of bakeries in the area couldn’t have helped. Anyway, one does hate to see businesses close.

  1. Sad to see them go – they had the best carrot cake. :(

  2. That space is cursed. I’ve yet to see anyone make there ;o(((

  3. You took the words away: the space is cursed.

  4. that was quick, there was no notice warning of it or anything! (or at least not that we noticed)

  5. I don’t wish them ill, but having tried the cupcakes there, they were overpriced and dry and just not at all yummy. Here’s hoping that a new business can take the reigns in that location.

  6. Actually I’m with N Whiting… I bought one cake there.. and it was definitely not fresh, and not interesting, and I never went back. You don’t get a second chance with baked goods.

And while there are options here, I still miss ceci cela (whose storefront around the corner, is empty again) , so if a baker of that standard opened here, I’m sure they would do well. (of course Laurent, of Ceci Cela, said that the rent killed him… hard to find a compromise!)

  7. I’m with Liat. The treats weren’t a treat and they didn’t put any money into making the space cozy and inviting. I would have gone there all the time for coffee and dessert if it had a bit more of a cafe vibe.

  8. That corner has yet to turn a profit for anyone. I’ve been in Tribeca since the mid nineties and no one has been able to have a solid business in that particular location (the same goes for the location slightly east on Chambers where the Tea store used to be -owner by the same landlords). I had spoken to the previous tenants (the sandwich guys) when they closed because I was so surprised they couldn’t make their rent…. they used to have lunch lines for sandwiches wrapping around the corner. They said the rent was very high and the traffic not consistent (busy only at lunch if you offer something people want, otherwise, dead all the time). As an aside, I too found the cupcakes less than average at the little pie co. and they offerred nothing too unique, although my sons liked them.
