Seen & Heard: Soho Rep play is Pulitzer finalist

SOHO REP PLAY IS A PULITZER FINALIST
Shayok Misha Chowdhury’s “Public Obscenities,” which had its world premiere at Soho Rep, has been named one of three finalists for the 2024 Pulitzer Prize in Drama. The play has since transferred to Woolly Mammoth and Theatre for a New Audience. The Pulitzer Prize committee described as “a densely written, deeply-felt drama that examines identity, home, queerness, and language through the lens of a Bengali American reuniting with his family in India.”

AND…SOHO REP ‘THE FIRES’ EXTENDED
Soho Rep’s “The Fires” is a NY Times Critic’s Pick and is now extended through June 20. Brittani Samuel wrote: “Rarely does a show live up so honestly to its title – wrecking and illuminating in equal measure…memorable performances…comedic moments prove that queer Black life (and, thus queer Black love) can be tragic and hilarious.” Tickets range from $35 to $55. Tuesday to Sunday at 7:30; Saturday matinee at 3p.

NEW MENTAL HEALTH PRACTICE IN FIDI
Psychiatrist Allie Sharma has opened Being Health, a new mental health practice at 76 Beaver in Fidi that offers psychiatry and psychotherapy, novel treatments likes ketamine for severe depression, functional medicine services and wellness offerings such as acupuncture and nutrition. Sharma is a Cornell-trained board-certified adult psychiatrist and behavioral health strategist. More information on the practice here.

YOUTH WORKSHOP SERIES AT ARTISTS SPACE
The feminist arts organization Topical Cream will offer a free youth workshop with writer, artist and musician Juliana Huxtable this Saturday, June 22, from 2 to 4p, at Artists Space, 11 Cortland Alley. Huxtable will give a fun overview of girls in punk rock and DIY cultural movements, demonstrating how button-making serves as a vehicle for aesthetics, protest and community engagement. LYONS DEN AT THE SEAPORT
Lyons Den Power Yoga will be back at the Seaport on Saturdays in July, 10:30 to 11:30a at the Heineken Riverdeck on Pier 17. Classes are free, but reservations are encouraged.
